//American Idol Roundup: Blake, Ruben, Kelly//

Even though this season of American Idol sucks harder than Paris Hilton in the bathroom at Hyde, I still watch religiously. I’ve been tuning in every Tuesday, Wednesday and sometimes Thursday steadily since the 2nd season–sorry, first season blew–so I love to keep up with the winners, runner-ups and rejects long after the show is over.
-
In this round-up, find out what’s going down with sixth season runner-up Blake Lewis, second season winner Ruben Studdard, and first season champ Kelly Clarkson.
-
First up, Blake Lewis. Blake, known more for his beat-boxing than his singing, released his debut album, Audio Day Dream (A.D.D.), in December of last year. The first single, Break Anotha, failed to make waves at radio or just about anywhere. He’s looking to change all that when he debuts his new single, How Many Words, Thursday on American Idol’s results show.

I really like Blake. I hope this single does well. We hope to bring you the video of the performance Thursday-and we will if Fox doesn’t shut our asses down.

Next, the Velvet Teddy Bear himself, Ruben Studdard. Ruuuuuuben recently dropped 80 pounds after dropping red meats from his diet. Unfortunately, Studdard was also recently dropped from his record label. Doesn’t look like he stayed down for long because he has a new gig already. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Ruben’s cover of Kenny Loggins’ “Celebrate Me Home” will be used as the farewell song this season on Idol.

You can download the track exclusively on iTunes starting March 12th–the first day of eliminations for the top 12 on Idol.

And finally, the first Idol, Kelly Clarkson. Clarkson had a rough time last year after the public fall out between her and her label, the lukewarm response to her arena tour that subsequently got scaled back to a theatre tour, and the lackluster sales of her third studio album, My December. Well, Clarkson isn’t taking all of that to heart. She realizes the album did not live up to the success of the previous two telling the Australian Asssociated Press:
“It’s no big secret obviously this record wasn’t as popular as the last record,” she said.
“I thought when we went out (on tour) that nobody was going to know these songs but we went out and everybody’s singing every word to every song.
“So I was like, ‘a lot of you are either illegally downloading this or something’, because they’ve been singing everything, even the hidden tracks.
“Even if something isn’t the most successful thing, it’s personal and great for me because you get to see the fans reciprocate your feelings for it.”
Kelly will kick off her international tour in Australia tommorrow. Click here for the rest of the tour dates.
