So last night was Mariah Carey night on American Idol. Some folks sucked harder than Paris Hilton (Jason Castro, Kristy Lee Cook). Some delivered decent vocals but were over-praised (David Archuleta). Others did a beautiful job but were picked apart by the judges (Syesha Mercado). And who really cares about the rest.

But the night belonged to this season’s resident rocker, David Cook. With his ill brother cheering him on, David delivered a soul stirring rendition of Mariah’s “Always Be My Baby“. The cheese factor could have been so high but Dave performed it flawlessly. Take notes Idol wannabes, this is how you do it!

The riot is scheduled for 10 p.m. eastern time if David is sent packing tonight. I’ll bring the torches.
