She’s the #7 most subscribed to musician on YouTube but most of you probably never heard of her. Her name is Marié Digby (pronounced Mar-ee-AY). The 24-year-old Japanese/Irish beauty from California made a huge splash last year when she took to YouTube to tape herself singing Rihanna’s massive hit “Umbrella.” The video caught on like wildfire, garnering over 6 million views in less than a year. MTV took notice, too, placing the song on last season’s opening episode of “The Hills.”

After Digby tasted success with her cover of “Umbrella,” she quickly got her gears into motion working on original songs and looking for a record deal. Hollywood Records landed the gifted singer/songwriter and released her debut album, “Unfold,” April 8th 2008.

Simple, honest, and captivating are all words that describe the former U.C. Berkley student’s debut. On “Spell” Digby displays her piano playing skills; softly stroking the keys as she coos, “I have you for a moment/I can tell I’ve got to/’cause your lips don’t move/and something is happening ’cause your eyes tell me the truth/I’ve put a spell over you.”

Another stand out track, “Say It Again,” finds Marié being playful on the guitar wanting to hear her sweetie tell her he’s in love again. On the title-track, she sings, almost hauntingly, about letting down her guards and freeing her soul. “Watch me unfold…..I will allow someone to love me, love me, love me.” We do.
