Score major for Disney! The Jonas Brothers/Demi Lovato star vehical ”Camp Rock” debuted to an impressive 8.9 million viewers when it aired Friday night on the Disney Channel becoming the most watch cable program so far in 2008.
If you’re keeping score, those numbers are better than the 7 million “High School Musical” posted in its debut, but far, far lower than the 17.2 million “HSM 2” pulled in. I guess not even that dreamy ass Joe Jonas can compete with MAC Foundation Goddess Zac Efron.
Personally, and yes I’m probably too old to admit this, I watched the movie and was not impressed. I found it too sickeningly predictable, the songs too “omg, we gotta make this a hit!” and the acting too “OMG, we have to be stars so let’s overact like our 15 minutes of fame depends on it!”
In stark contrast (for those quick to say “it’s a teen movie, it’s not supposed to be great”), I found HSM sickeningly delightful (though, HSM 2 suffered some of the same ”we have to top the last movie” hits CR did)–yes, I shouldn’t admit that either but I don’t wanna grow up, I’m a Toys-R-Us kid! It was a world of cheese but it didn’t try so hard. Just my opinion! Feel free to express yours.
Who cares. “Cheetah Girls” stomp all over all of these DCOM musical movies.
