Some folks brought out their A game in their performance at the BET Awards last night. Here’s a look at our top 5 picks.
#1: Alicia Keys, SWV, En Vogue and TLC – Teenage Love Affair, Weak, Hold On and Waterfalls
Story says: Alicia’s performance reunited some of the 90’s hottest girls groups. En Vogue got down! Although SWV was a little “weak”, it was still nice to see them together. T and C did the best they could without their L so I always have to give it to them. T-Boz my betch too!
TJ says: ALICIA KEYS IS THE QUEEN! Yes, I heard how rough her voice was. Yup, I’m sure her wig looked cheap. AND? Your point!? After seeing her pour her soul out on the stage on tour, there’s no wonder her voice was left a bit tired. What she lacked in vocal strength she made up for in “Wow.” SWV, the ORIGINAL EnVouge AND TLC? No topping that!
#2: Lil Wayne and T Pain Medley
Story says: This is Lil Wayne’s year. Even if the whole performance sucked (which it didn’t), the “A Milli” performance would have saved it. I’m not rap head but that is one of the sickest verses I’ve heard in a long time
TJ Says: What can I say? Weezy is a beast (……). He killed that performance. But “T-Wayne”? I guess that joint album is really happening…
#3: Ne-Yo – Closer
Story says: Ne-Yo is that dude! While the first few performers lip synced like their names were Britney Spears, Ne-Yo took the stage and performed live. And did a fantastic job IMO!
TJ says: There is nothing I don’t love about this man! He surprised a lot of people with this hawt ass performance. They didn’t know Shaffer had all of that in him. I’m extra proud of him because I knew he could show up and show out.
#4: Al Green Tribute
Story says: Honestly, I didn’t really care for Al’s performance. What sucked me in and got him the #4 spot was his tribute. Most importantly, Maxwell’s. Damn that man still has it!
TJ says: MAXWELL IS BACK!!! I’m pissed at the lack of vids of his performance on youtube so we had to go with the Rev’s performance. His voice is near trashed but the songs are classics. You can just block it out and sing along and that’s what many in the audience did. But yeah…the tribute portion was equally as electrifying.
#5: Chris Brown – With You/Take You Down
Story says: I love this sexy fetus. I really do. If his singing voice was stronger, he would have been higher on the list. Loving Ciara’s cameo.
TJ says: Truth is I never look forward to hearing Breezy’s shaky ass voice during live performances, but I ALWAYS look forward to the dance moves he’s going to pull out. Homie put it down!! And when his female equivalent, Ciara, came out it was OVER! Gotta love how the camera man was fishing for a reaction out of Rihanna. They so messy!
