Lloyd is serious about making that good old fashion baby making music. He doesn’t pull many punches in his straight forward new album Lesson in Love. “I wanna treat you good/Just a little/Kiss you on your lips/the ones past your hips,” he sings on the sexy “Treat You Good.” He’s got a one track mind and with other tracks like “Have My Baby” and “Love Making 101” there’s no denying what track it’s on: sex, sex, sex.
In the tradition of old school R&B crooners like Marvin Gaye and the more modern R. Kelly (well, before we knew Kels was probably singing about your little cousin Nay Nay in 9th grade), Young Goldie, as he’s known, set out to make an album that not only makes you nod your head and sway your body, but gets your body rocking–particulary under another person’s body.
He’s accomplshed what he set out to do on this 12 song set of sexy R&B grooves with production by Lloyd himself with Street Love Production partners Big Reese and Jasper, Usher‘s brother J. Lack, Polow Da Don, The Knightwritaz, and Eric Hudson.
No song on the album probably sums up his mission to put out loin-tingling music quite like “Year of the Lover,” the front-runner to follow-up the Lil Wayne featured bass bumping first single “Girls Around the World.” The electric guitar intro serves as the perfect musical foreplay, with the play-by-play lyrics serving as the satifying main event.
Sex may be the central topic of the album but Lloyd does some branching out. In “I Can Change Your Life” Lloyd tries to convince a scorn woman to take a chance and trust in love again with him. “I can change your life/I can make you happy/if you let me/I’ll make your puzzle complete,” he sings on the chorus. His delicate vocals channel a modern day Michael Jackson perfectly.
In whole, this one is definitely not for the kiddie. But if you’re 18 and up, you’re sure to enjoy this intimate look into Lloyd’s bedroom. After the first round, you’ll be coming back for seconds. Don’t worry–Lloyd’s gentle.
