Rihanna clinches the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a second week with her newest smash hit “Disturbia,” (which she will be performing live for the very first time at this year’s VMAs) but she faces some tough competition to stay on top in the weeks to follow by American Idol’s season 7 runner-up David Archuleta. Archuleta’s first non-Idol single, “Crush,” starts out high at #2 after selling 166,000 downloads. The single secures David A.’s spot in the record books for being the highest debut for any single released by an American Idol contestant that was not performed on the show, as well as being the highest debut for a single since January of 2007.

Country cutie (and possibly Joe Jonas’s new girlfriend) Taylor Swift also makes a high debut on the chart this week. Her single for AT&T’s Team USA Soundtrack, “Change,” starts out at #10 after selling 133,000 downloads.

This week’s top 10 singles:

  1. Rihanna – Disturbia
  2. David Archuleta – Crush
  3. Chris Brown – Forever
  4. Katy Perry – I Kissed a Girl
  5. Coldplay – Viva la Vida
  6. MIA – Paper Planes
  7. Kardinal Offishall ft Akon - Dangerous
  8. Rihanna - Take a Bow
  9. Ne-Yo – Closer
  10. Taylor Swift – Change

It’s a Jonas Brothers take-over on the Billboard 200 Albums chart this week. The guys scored their first #1 album with their sophomore set A Little Bit Longer, selling a whopping 525,000 copies in its debut week. Longer joins two other Jonas-led albums in the top 10. The soundtrack to Disney’s Camp Rock which stars the Jo Bros and Demi Lovato sits at #8 while their self-titled debut album gets comfortable at #10.

David has delivered an amazing first single to his fans, and the public. It is rhythmic, David’s superior vocals soar and are identifiable throughout, has a catchy beat.. Hey-> I watched lotsa American Bandstand back in the day :)

His older fans like me find themselves humming along unconsciously, and the verses transport the listener back to those bygone days of school girl and schoolboy CRUSHES… It has an appeal across a very broad spectrum of listeners, and should effectively silence the detractors and critics who didn’t believe he had mainstream appeal. CRUSH is the catapult for David to continue his growth and evolution as an artist – I ANTICIPATE MANY MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING MUSIC FROM HIM. TAKE A BOW DAVID… YOU’VE ARRIVED.
