Ne-Yo is quite the gentleman, but don’t expect him to just accept anything he’s told for the sake of remaining polite. Ne-Yo revealed in a video chat on his Year of the Gentleman blog that the music business has brought out the worst in some family and friends, but insists it’s not because he’s changed.

“When you gain any kind of fame, recognition, money, whatever the case may be in this business, people’s true colors start coming out,” he says. “You start figuring out who’s real and who’s not as far as friends are concerned, as far as family is concerned.

“You get all sorts of brand new cousins that you aint never heard of, aint never seen before but all of a sudden ‘I’m your favorite cousin, you remember me? We fell out the tree…’,” he joked, “No, I don’t remember falling out the tree with you, sorry. No, I won’t buy you a truck.” “I will say I have less friends now than before I got in the business and that aint because I’ve changed.”

But he has made one good friend in the business: his labelmate and frequent collaboration partner Rihanna. “That’s baby sis. That’s little Rih Rih,” he gushed. The two have worked together on some of Rihanna’s biggest hits like Unfaithful, Take A Bow, and their duet Hate That I Love You. “The cool thing about working with Rihanna is that she’s absolutely so very much like a little sister to the point where even if we get into a disagreement about something, it aint never big. We don’t ever stay mad.”

He had some kind words about another female artist he says he’s just recently gained a new appreciation for. “[There’s] something about Pink that I’m really, really feeling right now. I dig the fact that she just don’t give a f*ck.”

He also revealed plans for a R&B remix to the T.I., Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Lil Wayne gloat-fest  Swagger Like Us. The song is in the works but hasn’t been completed just yet. “Everyone who is gonna be involved is really, really busy at the moment, so as soon as we can sit down and put it together then it’ll be out….It’s going to be me, Chris Brown, Usher, and T-Pain. So, be looking for that real soon.”
