Last week was a big week in new releases, but no one had the sales muscle quite like Beyonce and her gloved alter-ego Sasha Fierce. Beyonce’s third solo album, I Am…Sasha Fierce, becomes her third straight chart topping album, coming in at #1 after selling an impressive 482,000 copies in its first week of release according to Nielson SoundScan. Led by the singles “If I Were A Boy” and “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It),” Fierce stomps on the sales of Bey’s debut album, 2003’s Dangerously In Love, which sold 317,000 in its debut week, though, it falls short of the 541,000 2006’s B’Day pulled in its first week out. The total, while nothing to scoff at, also falls short of the 750k-1mil Beyoncé’s manager/father Mathew Knowles predicted it would sell in an interview with Billboard Magazine last month. Leave it to the buying frenzy of Black Friday to make up for any lost ground.
Two other albums had big top ten debuts this week. Nickelback is back with their new album Dark Horse after selling close to 7mil albums with their previous album, All The Right Reasons. The set seems to be poised to follow-up nicely starting right behind Beyoncé selling 326,000.
American Idol season seven winner David Cook may have been beaten by runner-up David Archuleta with his starting chart position (Archuleta’s album debuted at #2), but his self-titled debut comes in at #3 with a better sales start with 280,000.
