Chris Brown is on a roll. The 19-year-old R&B phenom swept the American Music Awards in November taking home every award he was nominated for–even the most coveted Artist of the Year trophy. Now, he’s being named the top artist of 2008 by Billboard as well. The latest flood of recognition should come as less of a surprise since Brown has had a huge year on the charts. Not only did he rule with solo hits like “With You” and “Forever” but he also added buoyancy to other artists’ singles, like Jordin Sparks who makes the list at No. 8 with Brown’s help on their duet ”No Air.”
Not far behind Brown at No. 2 is Lil Wayne who also had a stellar year on the charts. His album, Tha Carter III, sold over a million copies in its first week and he’s had monster singles like “Lollipop” and “A Milli” as well as a host of guest spots on various singles.
Rihanna also makes a high showing at No. 3 thanks to strong sales of her reloaded Good Girl Gone Bad and downloads of singles “Disturbia” (co-written by Chris Breezy) and “Take A Bow.”
Others making the list include Alicia Keys (No. 4), Taylor Swift (No. 5), Ne-Yo (No. 17), and Jonas Brothers (No. 9).
Take a look at the full list of top artists here and other Billboard year-end charts and how they were determined here.
