At Last. Those are apparently fighting words to legendary blues singer Etta James. It’s also the name of the song at the center of a seemingly one-sided feud between the legend and the woman who recently played her in the film Cadillac Records, Beyonce.
“You guys know your president, right? You know the one with the big ears? He aint my president. He might be your president,” she said to the crowd at her concert in Seattle on January 28 referring to President Barack Obama. “But I tell you that woman he had singing for him, singing my song, she gon’ get her ass whipped.”
“I can’t stand Beyonce. She had no business up there singing.” The rant can be heard on blogs all over the internet. Listen here.
Those burning words were a far cry from the interview James’ son gave only a day after Beyonce’s awe-inspiring performance for the president and First Lady Michelle Obama‘s first dance at the Neighborhood Ball on inauguration night.
“She was looking forward to seeing it. She was honored [and] she thought it was great. She’s gotten emotional, just like everybody else,” he told the NY Daily News.
Now James is speaking out about the public outburst insisting it was only a joke.
“I didn’t really mean anything. Even as a little child, I’ve always had that comedian kind of attitude,” she told the NY Daily News in an interview Thursday (Feb. 5). “That’s probably what went into it.”
Although she cleared the air with The Mighty B, she admitted to being a bit upset that she wasn’t invited to sing her signature song for the historic event, saying she was “feeling left out of something that was basically mine, that I had done every time you look around.”

Beyonce has yet to respond to the controversy.

Beyonce could take Etta James in more ways than one
I am very sad about the comments Etta James made about beyonce’. Being upset about her performing her song is one thing, making the remarks she did were very rude and distasteful.
