In a disturbing twist to a story we reported earlier, several sources are confirming Chris Brown is under investigation for an alleged assault on a woman following the Clive Davis pre-Grammy party this morning in Los Angeles.

TMZ reports Brown and a woman police will not identify got into an argument in a limo after leaving the party. The argument turned violent and police were called. Police on the scene say the woman had visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker; Brown left the scene before law enforcement arrived. He is being sought for questioning.

The incident has forced Brown to cancel his performance at tonight’s 51st annual Grammy Awards where he is nominated for two awards.

While authorities have not identified the woman as Grammy-winner Rihanna, she has cancelled her appearance at the show as well. It was reported by Entertainment Weekly earlier that she was in a “car accident.”

Rihanna’s publicist issued a statement saying she is “well” and thanks fans for their concern and support.
