//American Idol Recap: Results – First Three Top 12 Spots Filled//

America seems to be in no mood for shockers this early into this season of American Idol. Each of the three finalists to make it into the top 3 on Wednesday could have been predicted from their performances and judges’ feedback from the first performance episode on Tuesday night.

The first contestant making it into the top 12 was 21-year-old mom Alexis Grace. The Memphis, TN native proved she had what it takes Tuesday as she slayed every female performer with a surprisingly soulful rendition of Aretha Franklin’s “Never Loved A Man.” Her performance drew comparisons to inaugural Idol winner Kelly Clarkson and earned her the “dark horse” titled.

27-year-old rough neck Michael Sarver was another the judges were clearly rooting for. He was unsure of his fate as he waited for the results with another favorite, 22-year-old Anoop Desai, but the charming, blue-collared family man proved he has what it takes to tackle the big stage.

In what could have been the season’s first shocking moment, fan favorite Danny Gokey, the widower who won our hearts when he auditioned with his BFF Jamar Rogers, waited to find out his fate with another prominent but not always for the right reasons contestant Tatiana Nicole Del Toro.

The 28-year-old was elated to receive the good news that he’d fill the third space in the top 12 and the mic to performed Mariah Carey’s “Hero,” the song he performed the night before that earned him the praise that would make him the front-runner of the competition thus far. A teary Del Toro could be seen in the background throughout the entire performance.

Nine spots remain. The next six will be filled as group 2 and 3 perform; the final three will be selected through the return of the wildcard round.
