Before the highly publicized Grammy day brawl between Rihanna and Chris Brown turned their lives upside down, the young stars were beginning work on the follow-ups to their mega-successful current albums.
Rihanna’s Good Girl Gone Bad is a double-platinum selling instant classic that spawned hit after hit record. Brown’s sophomore set, Exclusive, catapulted him from the charming boy-next-door, to an R&B star on the verge of superstar status.
The events of Feb. 8 have left the couple’s career paths in uncertainty. Brown, who has already lost major endorsement deals, is facing two felony charges for allegedly attacking his popstar girlfriend. Rihanna, though still seen by some as the victim in the matter, is being heavily criticized for reportedly reuniting with her alleged abuser.
Even still, both stars are pushing forward with their new albums.
Brown’s new album, Grafitti, is still scheduled for release at the end of the year. He’s been working on the set for several months, with many songs meant for the album leaking to the internet already, including “Electric Guitar,” a song meant as a duet between Brown and Rihanna.
He logged in some studio time at the Hit Factory while in Miami last week, where he reportedly reconciled with Rihanna three weeks after the fight. He was also seen leaving Glenwood Place recording studio the night before his March 5 court date and met with a music industry figure regarding the album the evening following his court visit.
Entertainment Tonight revealed in an interview with producer Adonis that the Bajan sensation is also back in the studio working on her as-yet-untitled fourth album.
“She’s going in the same direction, just the evolution of what she already is: super pop diva,” he told the show about the sound of the new record. “She always brings her best efforts every time she steps onto the stage or into the studio, so it’s definitely an eclipse of what she’s done before. It’s gonna be hot.”
Rihanna’s new album was said to be releasing later in 2009 before the incident. No word on if that timeline will stick.
