//American Idol Recap: Results – Top 13 Down To 11 Despite New Rule//

Tonight’s American Idol results introduced a new twist to the competition that could potentially cause a shake up during the eliminations.

Showing a video montage that featured past Idol contestants voted off too soon like Tamyra Gray, Jennifer Hudson, and Chris Daughtry, Ryan Seacrest announced that the judges would have the opportunity to spare an eliminated contestant once this season until they reach the top 5. Good news to those contestants that may have picked the wrong song the night before, or whose fanbase got lazy.

But the spare won’t prolong the competition. Should a contestant avoid elimination one week, two contestants will go home the following week.

The judges did not take advantage of that option tonight, and two people packed it up and went home.

The first to sing her swan song was 16-year-old Jasmine Murray from Starkville, MS. During Tuesday’s performance show, she drew criticism for performing like “a little girl trying to sound grown up.” Her cold rendition of “I’ll Be There” for the Michael Jackson theme night made it almost certain she’d be one of the two facing elimination.

A bit more surprising was the elimination of Jorge Nunez, the 20-year-old crooner from Puerto Rico. Jorge’s performance of the Jackson 5’s “Never Can Say Goodbye” might have been a little on the safe, side but it was vocally flawless. He awaited the results with 21-year-old Chapel Hill, NC native Anoop Desai, whose performance of “Beat It” was panned by all four judges — even prompting Simon to say he regretted making it a top 13 on the back on that performance.

Serving as the farewell song this season is season 4 winner Carrie Underwood’s remake of Motley Crue’s  “Home Sweet Home.”

The remaining 11 contestants will perform for your votes again next Tuesday.
