//Solange Denies Being ‘Released’ From Geffen Records//

Following the announcement of Kelly Rowland’s exit from Columbia Records last week, the internet has been swarming to get to the “real reason” behind her departure. Was it really mutual? Was she “dropped” to spite her decision to find new management and leave Mathew Knowles behind? AOL’s Black Voices columnist Jawn Murray claims to have the answers to those questions and reveals more.

In his latest edition of BV Buzz, Murray claims Rowland’s big announcement was timed to cover up Knowles’s youngest daughter Solange’s quiet release from Geffen/Interscope Records.

Solange released her sophomore album, Sol-Angel and the Hadley Street Dreams, on the label last summer. The set got high praises from critics but sales of the album were unremarkable.

A source revealed to Murray that sales and difficulties dealing with Solange’s team were the cause of her release.

“Geffen did a one-off deal with Music World Entertainment for Solange and wasn’t interested in doing a new contract with her,” a source was quoted as saying. “People at the label really liked working with her because other than her infamous news outburst in Las Vegas, she was a constant professional. There were challenges dealing with her camp, but Solange was great to work with. In the end, the CD didn’t sell despite Solange’s countless high profile appearances.”

Solange has shot down the insider’s claims. Posting on her Twitter page, the singer — who sometimes controls rumors and clarifies stories under a “You Stoopid Idiots” tag inspired by the cartoon Ren and Stimpy — quickly responded to the report by saying: “I was NOT released from Geffen/Interscope… now back to your regular scheduled program.”

Statements from Mathew Knowles and Geffen echoing Solange’s sentiments soon followed, but Murray stands behind his report.

“BV Buzz never reported Solange had been dropped by Geffen/Interscope, however I do stand by what was reported in its entirety, which was the label does not want to proceed forward with a second project and that Knowles has been shopping deals with other labels for his daughter – particularly Epic Records.”
