//American Idol Recap: Lil Rounds May Be Out Of Rounds, Allison Iraheta Still Heating Up//

Music from the movies was the soundtrack for last night’s American Idol. The remaining seven contestants had a wide array of songs to choose from, so there’s absolutely no way they’d screw it up.
As usual, no. That would be wrong. It’s becoming predictable and a but redundant to hope everyone would get it right at this point. The fact is, no matter how many times the judges preach about song choice, someone will hear a song one way in their head, and it will come out a totally different way on stage.
Still, last night wasn’t thatbad. Maybe it was the help from this week’s mentor Quenton Tarantino that inspired them to bring their A game, or maybe it was the team judging (Paula and Simon, Randy and Kara), but I can honestly say I can remember everyone’s performances.
Let’s take a look at how it all went down:
Allison Iraheta – Don’t Want To Miss A Thing: This theme week almost certainly meant someone would be performing this Aerosmith song from the movie Armageddon, the only question was who would be the lucky duck to pick the song. Thankfully it was Allison. The young rocker brought a new level of fierceness to the song. She had a few shaky moments in the middle, but besides that her big voice really soard. Team Cowell-Abdul loved every moment. Her performance even inspired Simon to say she’s the girls’ only hope left in the competition and she’s got the talent to make it til the end. Agreed!
Anoop Desai – Everything I Do: It was another great night for Anoop Dogg as he delivered yet another remarkable vocal performance. The Bryan Adams classic from the movie Robin Hood could have been a real challenge for a lesser singer, but Anoop has got the chops to take on the biggest song. Team Jackson-Dioguardi totally loved. Randy was so right, Anoop had the emotion jumping off last night. What!?
Adam Lambert – Born To Be Wild: Adam Lambert has been on a roll for the last few weeks. With great performance after great performance, it was just a matter of time before he was no longer able to keep up the momentum–he definitely didn’t last night. His ambition was admirable, and his high notes are always appreciated (they’re so effortless!) but the arrangement blew and the song choice was a bit corny. I didn’t love. Paula did. She uttered some wacky bull like Adam “dares to dance in the path of greatness.” OK, like, whatever! Simon hit him with “half will like, half will hate” stick before admitting he’s apart of the half that likes.
Matt Giraud – Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman: Matt’s performance last night was a little weird for me. Not actually his performance but my reaction to it versus the judges’ reactions. Last week I wasn’t all that pumped about his performance, but the judges all but wet their bloomers over it. This week, I completely loved his performance. Sure, there were some pitchy moments, but it didn’t completely hurt his performance. And he took a few liberties with the melody, but just slightly. It was the perfect mix of pop, rock, and his soul. Everything I loved about the performance was criticized by Kara and Randy. They can kick rock! Matt rocked it.
Danny Gokey – Endless Love: Now this is a man who knows how to choose songs. Danny (minus his glasses!!) started the song out with a really rough note and I was almost afraid thing wouldn’t pick up. But of course Danny wouldn’t let us down. Not only did he pick the song up, he grabbed that baby and ran for the home plate! The Gokey is an amazing vocalist and week after week he proves it. I loved and WILL be downloading the iTunes version. Paula melted over it. Simon thought the vocals were great (well, duh!) but was disappointed that he didn’t change things up ala David Cook’s “Hello” performance.
Kris Allen – Falling Slowly: So remember when I said that I could honestly remember everyone’s performance? I didn’t lie, but that doesn’t mean I remember them for the right reasons. When I think back on Kris’s performance, I remember how I started thinking about how I need to buy more black nail polish (my nails totally need some color!). There were some good things about his performance. One: he looked soooo dreamy. Two: he made a good decision letting his guitar take the night off. Three: the ending note was hot! Four: um, DREAMY! Team Jackson-Dioguardi was split on their critique. Randy thought it was pitchy from start to finish. Kara thought it was one of his best moments. If only Simon was allowed to judge it. Rats!
Lil Rounds – The Rose: Lil Rounds obviously believes she has the voice to cover the big songs. Whitney, Tina, now Bette. Le sigh. It just didn’t work. I can appreciate her attempt to add some gospel into the mix, but the arrangement can only do so much when the singer is pitchy beyond belief. The beginning was very shaky. The end got a bit better but by that point it was too late. Paula loved it, but who really takes her seriously. Simon cut through all the BS and told her straight up she’s just not the singer they met weeks ago and she’s getting this all wrong. His feedback inspired a passionate rant from Lil about her trying out her artistry like she’s been told to do with adding the gospel and soul bits to the song. Ryan cut the back and forth short since they were running out of time but Lil was pissed! That’s right, Lil! Go out with a bang, because, my dear, you WILL be going out.
Predictions: Anoop will see the bottom. Not because he deserves it, but because there are just so few singers left. Kris will too and so will Lil. Lil will be sent packing if things are right in the world.
See if I’m right tonight on the results show which will feature performances by Jennifer Hudson and Miley Cyrus.

I have read about 20 reviews of the show and your commentary stands alone. It is laughable and completely biased. In reference to Adam’s performance you said, “he was no longer able to keep up the momentum”. You may want to have your hearing and vision checked because I actually watched the show and he rocked it. I wonder who you are rooting for so desparately after reading this article?! Laughable.
Umm…apparently you know nothing about music….either that or you’re completley tone deaf if you think Lil Rounds was pitchy!
ggod luck to all american idol finalist!!!
uhh..everyone has an opinion…i can respect yours…but i think u sippin what paula sippin…danny was boring…one of the most boring of the night…lil was special last night…i think simon owes her and bette midler an apology…i thought his comment lingered on being stereotypical and close 2 being racially insensitive…a good artist tackles all songs…whether that song is pop,r&b,country or what genre…thank u lil 4 putting that bastard in his place
The thing about Lil’ Rounds is that she can SANG!!! but she lacks personality and her delivery of the songs always fall short of what we expect.
I agree Anoop has a BEAUTIFUL voice but he’ll see the bottom two…Personality goes a LONG way on this show..
and my FAVES by far are Allison and ADAM!!!! I’m TEAM ADAM all the way!!! That kid’s got it!!!!
I enjoyed it and i agree with you commentary to an extent…ur review’s pretty good, solid…I like Lil but I think she’s going home now…Anoop will be in the bottom 3 because there are less contestants and cuz some of us Americans are stupid. lol…and Adam was good to me…he certainly rocked that stage.loved it…:)
