With the judges’ save no longer an option (it was used last week to spare Matt Giraud from elimination), America was forced to say goodbye to two contestants last night on American Idol’s results show.
Tuesday night’s disco night was a surprising success. The theme usually makes for a show filled with karaoke-styled performances, but most of the contestants brought creativity to the table to put a new spin on familiar songs.
Among the high praise getters were showstopper Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, and Allision Iraheta.
Lil Rounds, who was close to being eliminated last week, got across-the-board negative feedback from the judges after her performance of “I’m Every Woman,” so it wasn’t a surprise when the mother of three was the first to be sent packing.
More surprising were the others in danger of going home. Anoop Desai didn’t get the best feedback, but his performances from week to week were solid and he was clearly a fan favorite. Allison Iraheta’s placement in the bottom three was the big shocker; she was the underdog from the start but was adored by the judges for her originality and strong vocal performances.
When it was all said and done, it was Anoop, the Chapel Hill, NC native, going home.
The final five contestants perform again next Tuesday.
