It’s hard to believe it but there are only two more weeks left in season 8 of American Idol. Last night’s results show revealed America’s final three performers who will return home to their hometowns to a hero’s welcome.
Unfortunately, that won’t be Allison Iraheta. The 17-year-old powerhouse received the lowest number of votes and was eliminated last night, even after an incredible performance of “Cry Baby” by Janis Joplin and a high energy duet with front-runner Adam Lambert.
The top 3 was announced in random order starting with Kris Allen who was genuinely shocked to find that he’d remain in the competition. He admitted earlier in the show that he had no idea he’d get so far.
Adam was next, followed by Danny Gokey who didn’t have the best performance night on Tuesday night’s rock theme episode. His performance of Aerosmith‘s “Dream On” was panned by the judges, mainly for the screechy ending note that he admitted made him laugh when he watched it back.
Allison’s elimination wasn’t really a shock to anyone, but the audience and judges were sad to see her go. She received a standing ovation from all four judges when Ryan Seacrest announced the results, and for her better than Tuesday swan song performance.
The top 3 perform again next Tuesday. They will sing two songs: judge’s choice and personal favorite.

That was an awesome performance. Allison is an awesome singer and I can’t wait to hear her album!
