With nine words Ryan Seacrest delivered one of the biggest upsets in reality TV history: “The winner of American Idol 2009 is Kris Allen.”
The Conway, Arkansas native shocked his way to victory beating out fan and judge favorite Adam Lambert to become the eighth American Idol.
Not even Kris knew how to handle the news. “Are you serious!? Are you freakin’ serious!?” the stunned 23-year-old said shortly after the sealed results were read.
“The dark horse comes back and wins the nation over. How does it feel?” Seacrest asked the new Idol. “It feels good man, but Adam deserves this. I don’t even know how to feel right now!”
A gracious Lambert took his final bow and let Kris have his moment. “You’re a superstar, bro” Seacrest told the runner-up rocker with the blindingly unique style and amazing high notes.
The stage was soon given to Allen to perform his debut single, “No Boundaries,” which was co-written by Idol judge Kara DioGuardi.

Adam Lambert is true American Idol, everybody knows it……….Simon was shocked, he did not want to stand up, this is how shocked he was…….Even Kris was surprised and did not know how to react!!!!!!! I know, give up the trophy to the one who deserves it……..I think, the loosing made Adam even more popular!!!! I wait for your album Adam. You are true Idol, not American but International!!!!!!!!!!! You are one of a kind. America showed that it sucks in music and education, Europe would not make this mistake.

Wow! I’m like everybody else WTF America. We didn’t even know Kris 4 weeks ago. Adam won everytime he was on stage. I wish we could have a re-vote.
Adam was the best by far! He should have one! I guess people were voting on other then TALENT. Kris can sing but Adam definately sings the roof of the building. What happened! I don’t think I’m going to watch another season. It is to dissapointing. Adam has it all, Looks, Voice, Moves and Personality! OMG!

Both Kris and Adam are talented. Here in the Philippines, we watch A.I. with much focus and passion, being a musical nation ourselves. Filipinos love singers whose range of musicality is wide and versatile. It is obvious that Kris would be a favorite among us. Plus Filipinos always love a pretty face. Now, Adam symbolize the real artist performer. He can capture an audience with just his deep eyed look. Moreover, his metrosexuality is an attraction here in the Philippines. There are many of his kind. But few of his kind of talent. Adam while getting 2nd place, will be forever remembered, and perhaps become even more famous later. It’s usually those who have distinguished themselves differently from other idols that will make his name the true American Idol. Congratulations Kris and Adam, we love you here from a nation of singers and musicians, the PHilippines will look forward to your visit here some day. David Cook and Archuleta gave a whooping successful performance here.
I’m one of those so called Christian “haters”, but guess what – I totally love Adam. I voted for him 4 straight hours on Tuesday (over 10,000 text votes). Week after week, he gave us a concert. He was the only reason to watch this entire season.
American Idol is no longer a talent competition and although I’ve watched every season, I won’t be watching anymore, and I hope Simon moves on from this show.
Kris won because he’s talented and the majority of viewers prefer his style of music over Adam’s. I’m tired of people saying he won because he’s Christian or Adam’s gay. If that was the case, why didn’t Danny win? He won because he’s a talented musician and people like me like his style of music. That’s it. Period. Yes, Adam is a gifted singer but he also has been performing since age 10 on the stage, not exactly an amateur being “discovered”. Time will tell who will be successful.

Adam is by far the best singer of 2009 American Idol On the other hand, he is not an idol. I like men to be men. Wearing dark fingernail polish, and rings on most fingers is not a manly look. Also Danny is a better singer than Chris. There should be a minumum age to vote. I’m sure Chris got most of his votes from kids. He is a cutie. I wish all of them lots of luck.

Simon, you can retire now… honestly no one will be watching AI after last nights debacle with Kris winning – I admit I had a glimmer of faith that America would choose the better singer, but once again I was being naive and optimistic.
WTF is an understatement! Are people THAT repressed they can’t see true talent even when it slaps them in the face? AI just lost millions of viewers after last nights upset – Adam is in a total different league compared to all the other contestants, not to mention, Kris should have never even been in the final two, and then to win it? Something is really wrong with America, my friends…

Beyond shocking – Never watching another season of Idol again. With Adam, this was the ONLY season out of eight that was even worth watching. AI and America, you guys messed up big time.
good pick American..that man can sing. I believe hes the best over Adam because Kris can cater to most of everybody’s sound and taste. It was a shock but a good one.

i think american has made the right choice with kris allen coz he’s a much better idol for than adam lambert.. we wouldnt want anyone to follow the bad example of adam lambert but i do admit he has a brilliant voice.. idol doesnt only a person with amazing voice.. it is the whole looks..stop banging him.. kris allen deserve to win american idol…
