Season 8′s newest American Idol winner Kris Allen was on hand during game 2 of the NBA finals versus the Los Angeles Lakers and the Orlando Magic to sing the Star Spangled Banner. Wearing casual blue jeans and a black tshirt, Kris stood center court to deliver a simple rendition of the National Anthem. Nothing over the top and no lyric changing, jaw dropping moments ala Tyrese here!

A bit off for me. He sounded kinda flat on the low notes, like he was straining his voice. It was just OK. But He looked really good.
Really like his version!! nice tone and lovely phrasing that does justice to the lyrics!
I loved it. Loved that he did it a capella, straight from the heart with genuine respect for the song and the occasion. He is one of my favorite idols to date. He connects so beautifully with the music and the audience. I love his voice. There is just a pure quality to it that I find very pleasing. This was one of my favorite versions of the SSB in recent years at the NBA finals. Very well done.

Kris has an excellent range.
He sang the Star Spangled Banner beautifully. The Freeeeeeeeeeeeeee was awesome. We all know this is a difficult song to sing because of its range.

not very impressive redition….
A simple and heartfelt performance. I also listened to Adam Lambert’s version of the anthem on youtube. Adam adds all kinds of vocal flourishes that call attention to Adam but take away from the meaning of the song. The difference for me is that when Kris performs, it all about the song and its meaning. When Adam performs, it’s all about Adam. There is a narcissistic quality to Adam’s singing that I don’t care for.
LOL vocal flourishes. Like hitting the note, singing quieter then louder. Yep them’s some vocal flourishes alright. You Kris fans are the worst. Making up nonsense since you can’t just praise Kris outright for anything since he’s nothing more than average. So instead you go after someone else. Someone who’s on an entire other planet talent and WORK wise. No, Adam did not just drive down to Idol on a lark for a joke like your boy Kris did.
Simple – yes..unforgettable – absolutely. This was an opportunity to “shine” in front of a large audience but Kris lacked substance and excitement to energize those who were listening. There were obviously more “boos” than “cheers’ during the introduction. Kris seems to be a good guy and decent singer butnothing more than that.
Umm Ouch, Clearly adam needed to sing that song and at&t needs to stop handing out phones at parties allowing to text 10 votes at a time for kris :)
Seriously that was borderline average.
It lacked emotion. Kris is not a star, he is a very ordinary singer who got lucky at the right time

Sorry, that was a very weak version of the song. This guy doesn’t have the chops to sing it. I’ve never heard Lambert’s version so I can’t compare but seriously, this was weak. And dare I say, Yodel-ly?
Meh – he got through it. That’s about it. Forgot what he sounded like already.
I thought Kris did a great job with this, and as much as I like David Cook, I felt that Kris’ version was way better. He had some pitch problems with the lower range, but once the melody veered into his money range, it was all good. The crowd actually cheered mid-way through the anthem, not something I see very often.
I thought Kris did an awesome job, and yeah, as much as it pains me to say this, better than David Cook. True, there might have not been vocal flourishes or look at me! moments, but thats what is great about Kris. He goes in there and makes it about the music, not himself.
Kris sucks and is boring… Adam is AMAZING! I fell asleep during Kris’s anthem.

Can Adam and Kris fans stop sniping at each other? Why do you have to boost one up by tearing the other down? I love Adam, but I certainly wouldn’t make nasty comments about Kris (partly because I like him, partly because it’s juvenile to do so).
I mean, seriously PhDude–I’ve seen your comments on a number of Adam articles and it’s getting really excessive. Same goes for some kris fans here–no need to go around saying rude things about Adam.
