//Chris Brown Cops Plea Deal In Rihanna Assault Case//

It was supposed to be the ultimate courtroom showdown for pop stars Chris Brown and Rihanna, but instead it ended in a plea deal.
Rihanna was set to take the stand today to recount the events of an altercation she had with Brown on Feb. 8 that left her beaten and bloody, and him fighting for his freedom. But even before the scheduled 1:30 PT preliminary hearing was to take place, it had become clear the two would avoid the intense moment.
Dressed in a gray suit, a somber Brown appeared in a Los Angeles court Monday (June 22) to accept a deal in his felony assault case to avoid a trial. As part of the deal, he pleaded guilty to the charge of felony assault, agrees to five years supervised probation, must complete 180 days of hard community service in his native Virginia, complete domestic abuse classes, appear every three months in court to show progress, have no communication with and stay at least 50-yards away from Rihanna. The stay-away order changes to 10-yards when the singers appear at the same industry events.
Rihanna, wearing all black, appeared briefly in front of the judge to have the deal explained to her. She was also order not to have contact with Brown, as her reaching out to him could be seen as a violation of his probation.
Though Rihanna does not believe the stay-away order — which is in place for the next five years if it is not lifted — is necessary, her attorney Donald Etra says she feels the deal is “a fair and just resolution to this case.”
Brown gave no statement, but his attorney Mark Geragos has spoken out on his behalf. “He’s very thankful to all the people who’ve been very supportive,” People.com quoted Geragos as saying. “This is a kid who’s never been in trouble before, who wants to move past this and make sure that the message gets out that these kinds of things, of domestic violence, are not acceptable. And that he has accepted responsibility and continues to do so and embraces this as an opportunity for him to get his life back on track and his career back on track.
Brown will be back in court August 5 for formal sentencing.
