The 2009 Video Music Awards nominations were announced today and by the looks of it, the night could be ladies’ night.
Beyonce and Lady GaGa lead the pack with nine nominations each. Beyonce racks up the nods for her much-copied “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” and GaGa owns for her theatrical “Poker Face.”
The two divas will square off in almost every category they’re nominated in, including Best Female Video and the coveted Video of the Year.
GaGa lands the highly desirable Best New Artist nod where she’ll go head to head with Kid Cudi, Asher Roth, Drake, and 3OH!3.
Britney Spears isn’t far behind with seven nods of her own for her “Womanizer” and “Circus” videos.
But the guys are represented well by Kanye West, Coldplay, and Eminem, all tied with four nominations.
The 2009 VMAs will be hosted by comedian Russell Brand and air live on September 13 at 9pm EST/8pm C.
