Fate won’t allow for a speedy conclusion in Chris Brown‘s assault case as it’s been delayed yet again.

The 20-year-old R&B star appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom today (August 5) for formal sentencing after pleading guilty to felony assault in June stemming from an altercation he had with then-girlfriend Rihanna back in February.

In accordance with the plea deal he copped, Brown would be sentenced to five years probation, mandatory domestic violence classes, and 180 days of community labor — not community service which is a lighter sentence — in his native Virginia, but Virginia officials were not able to provide Judge Patricia Schnegg with the paperwork needed to ensure Brown would be able to serve his time in the state.

Brown will now face sentencing on August 27.

Rihanna was not in court today, but her attorney Donald Etra was present. He has said his client hoped to have a court-imposed stay-away order against Brown removed. Their request was not heard today.
