R&B singer Chris Brown has been formally sentenced to five years probation and six months of community labor in the February beating of his ex-girlfriend, pop superstar Rihanna.

After initially being delayed, Brown’s felony assault sentencing was moved up from its original August 27 date to today.

Dressed in a pinstriped suit, a somber looking Chris agreed to the terms of his June plea deal that also includes attendance in a domestic violence program for one year, several fines and fees and a court-imposed protective order that prohibits Brown from having contact with Rihanna.

“I’m not one to ever believe in any hearsay or anything else but I’m not immune from the chatter that’s been on the airwaves” Judge Patricia Schnegg said, presumably referring to the recent reports that Chris has had contact with Rihanna. “Any violation of this protective order is a violation of your probation.”

Under the terms of the protective order, Brown is to have no phone or written communication with Rihanna and must stay 100-yards away from her. The stay-away order changes to 10-yards when the singers appear at the same industry events.

Chris will need to appear in court every three months to give status updates, the first of which is scheduled for November 19.
