Reports claiming Michael Jackson‘s death would be ruled a homicide were confirmed today (August 28) by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, reports the Associated Press.
In the autopsy report — which was only partially revealed due to the ongoing investigation– the coroner deemed the King of Pop’s June 25 death a homicide caused by a powerful drug called propofol, commonly used to anesthetize patients for surgery, along with other sedatives. The use of propofol outside of a medical setting is strictly prohibited.
Likely to be charged with manslaughter is Jackson’s personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray, who has spoken out in his own defense prior to today’s announcement via a video posted to YouTube. “I have told the truth, and I have faith the truth will prevail,” he said in the taped message.
Murray admitted to police officials that he did inject Jackson with two sedatives on the day of his death, lorazepam and midazolam, before finally giving him propofol, but only at Jackson’s request; he had given Jackson the drug as a sleep aide nightly over the course of six weeks.
Jackson will be laid to rest September 3 is Los Angeles. Tomorrow would have been his 51st birthday.
