Yee-haw! American Idol season 8’s top 3 guys all have record deals finally, and the latest signing reveals he’s got a country twist.

It was announced today that Danny Gokey, the raspy-voiced crooner who finished third behind Adam Lambert and Kris Allen, has signed with 19 Recordings/RCA Nashville.

While on the show, Gokey was touted as a soul singer. He earned high praises for his wild performance of Michael Jackson’s “PYT” and for his sensitive rendition of Mariah Carey’s “Hero.” But it turns out his performance of country tunes like Rascal Flatts‘ “What Hurts the Most” was more his speed.

“I was so wet behind the ears, I didn’t know where I wanted to go,” he said of his time on Idol. “But I most related to the message and the music of country.”

Gokey is expected to head into the studio to begin work on the as-yet-untitled album after wrapping the American Idols Live summer tour on September 15. A single is predicted for the end of fall with the album coming in March.

Yeah. I am so happy to hear this. I can’t wait to buy his album.
I went to the american idol concert in KC and Danny as the best on stage.
Plus he got two standing ovations,, people loved him.

I was there and he was “not the best onstage” so I guess is about percepcion and musical taste. I wish him good but I’m glad it took him longer to get deal, it was a much needed lesson on humility for him.

If Gokey got it, I am sure that Matt and Anoop will soon have their contracts signed.

This is very exciting news. I guess I will be purchasing my first country CD because I will buy anything Danny puts out! I went to 4 American Idol Live shows and Danny was not only the best on stage, he was the nicest guy ever to the fans!

    • Dave23 says:

what a waste of your money…

Yes, Danny’s a really, really sweet guy. I went to his concert in Milwaukee. There were a lot of fans waiting outside and he took the time to go around signing autographs for EVERYONE and then came back around for pictures. He’s such a great guy…and very handsome too! :) I love you, Danny! :D

      • amy says:

he had plenty of time to go sign EVERYONE’s stuff and do pictures because clearly there wasn’t a mob awaiting him, while others like Adam and Kris had to rush around because of the large amount of fans screaming and waiting for them :)

Why was Gokey not signed in June together with other Top 4? 19 Recordings was not going to sign him as R&B or Latin/soul as Gokey’s pronouncements will be his direction. Daughtry’s producer in May already said it will be HARD to market Gokey. Gokey was surprised when told by Sleazak. It has to come to a point that Gokey is DESPERATE for a deal that he would accept anything. And there it was. A point of NO RETURN. To save his face, because of NO CHOICE, he accepts with relief. With his smugness, arrogance and competitive nature, the long wait is the price he has to pay and cut the embarrassment. Wish him some humility.

      Haters-Its tough admitting you’re wrong isn’t it?
The reason it took so long to sign him (Phil Stacey reports Sony wanted Danny in MAY), is because Danny is a smart guy who took his time considering all angles and more than one label was bidding on him. He didn’t just jump at the first offer.
He’s winning new fans/getting great reviews on tour and has a major record contract. Country is the largest selling genre and Danny’s soulful cross over appeal will go over big. He also has refuge from haters who hate on his religion outside of the country genre. Country makes perfect sense; he sang 3 country songs on the show and half of his tour songs (to great reviews by the way).
      Get over your jealousy.

      • Daniel says:

LOL!!! Not jumping at the first offer??? LOL!!! Hello??? Will you let AI’s 19 Recording wait if it there was any offer dangled in his face??? LOL!!! What Danny was waiting for was 19 Recording’s offer which it wasn’t till now and for country.
I doubt that country is the ‘largest’ selling genre. What I know, it’s only in the US and not outside. And even in US alone, I doubt if it’s the ‘largest genre’.

    • amy says:

      right on!!!

  5. Dave23 says:

Gokey is a train wreck waiting to happen..I think they made a mistake signing him, Matt should have won a deal. I would never buy anything that Gokey sings..he stinks

  6. Pierre says:

I wish Danny all the best.

  7. annie says:

Such great news. I’m a huge country music lover, and Danny was definitely my fave on AI this year. Such a powerful soulful voice! Loved his performances of the country tunes he did all through the season, can’t wait to hear more from him.

  8. Julius says:

Go Danny. You deserve this more than anyone else. God bless you all the way!

  9. GokeyGal says:

Oh my goodness, here come the haters. If you don’t like Gokey, why do you even bother to follow up on him? Yes, it’s all over the net about his getting a record deal but seriously why do you even take the time to read the articles and give your ‘ummmmm opinions? I guess you know better than the business professionals who signed Danny whether he is worth their money or not. Danny may not be everybody’s speed but the man has a gift that many, many people appreciate and are truly looking forward to his album dropping. Geez, get a life outside of hating on Danny and you just might make a decent human being. Godspeed Danny!!

  10. Sam says:

Thanks, GokeyGal. I’m so sick & tired of people who feel “anonymous” on the Internet and feel they can say anything hateful they want to! I think it’s mostly Glamberts who are so afraid that someone else is going to threaten Adam’s 15 mins. of fame! I really think they have nothing better to do with their time!

    GO DANNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
