Many fans thought Kanye West’s original “apology” to Taylor Swift for interrupting her VMA acceptance speech was deplorable. Well, you’re not the only one.
In a post on his blog made soon after he was asked to leave the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, Kanye seemingly apologized to Swift, her mom, and her fans, but ended the all-caps sorry-fest by saying, “I’m not crazy. I’m just real.”
West issued a shorter, less backhanded complimentary apology on his Kanye Univercity blog today:
I feel like Ben Stiller in “Meet the Parents” when he messed up everything and Robert De Niro asked him to leave…     That was Taylor’s moment and I had no right in any way to take it from her. I am truly sorry.
Kanye, who had been drinking throughout the show and even walked the red carpet with drink in hand, stormed the stage after Swift was presented with an award for Best Female Video, an award he believed should have gone to his pal Beyonce.

Whether he did it to a black artist, or a pink artist, or an orange artist, it was wrong. He’s over 30, and more than 10 years older than the artist he insulted – grow up, Kanye – it’s not always about you. People bringing up the race card just muddies the water. It doesn’t matter who the artist was – talented or not talented – he was at an awards ceremony and violated the spirit of the ceremony, which is to CELEBRATE achievement. His blog would have been the appropriate place to air his opinion, not grabbing the mike from a fellow artist. I don’t hate on Kanye, but I really do question why he thinks it’s necessary to repeatedly show disrespect to fellow artists at awards ceremonies with this kind of behavior. Also, he’s more than 10 years older than she is – time to grow up. Would his own mom have been proud of that behavior? I wasn’t in Louisiana when Katrina happened, so I didn’t see firsthand what FEMA and the Bush administration did or did not do. The last Presidential election made me really sad – I’m a woman, and hearing comments like people would “rather see a black man in office than a woman” made me really question the intelligence and heart of all americans – both sexism and racism are alive and well in America – sexism seems to be stronger. I voted for Obama. I don’t understand why people don’t show respect for an obviously qualified and thoughtful president – racism, but also evidence of how petty and vile some republicans can be. Republican talk show hosts (Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity) have gone on record saying they hope Obama fails at everything – they’re admitting they don’t care if individual Americans suffer in the meantime when relief bills or insurance reforms don’t pass simply because they want their own party (republicans) to resume presidency next term. That senator (Joe Wilson, who served in the Army and is an attorney and career politician) should be released from office and barred from future politics as he can’t claim ignorance about what constitutes disrespect to the ultimate commander in chief. This incident was just an awards show for music videos. You’re right – Beyonce wins awards every year and probably is one of the best selling artists of all time – but was that particular music video so much better than Taylor Swift’s – enough to jump on stage and grab the mike from Taylor Swift and tell her Beyonce’s work was better? Nope. Was defending Beyonce necessary because she’d be crushed not to have another VMA award on top of her hundreds of Grammys? Nope. What what he did racism? Nope. Quit muddying the water. Kanye has a history of interrupting other artists at awards shows, he’s rude when he does it, and he should keep his opinions to interviews and his blog.
Sunday night was not one of Kayne West’s better moments. He stole poor Taylor Swift’s thunder…very sad. Talk about an awkward moment for Beyonce too! That is a moment in Taylor’s life she will never get back…yes Beyonce tried to make it up to her (bless her soul), but lets face it, it wasn’t the same.
I’ll bet when Kayne woke up the next morning (or late afternoon) with a massive hangover and realizing what he had done to poor Taylor, it didn’t give him a warm and fuzzy feeling inside.

I’ll bet Taylor Swift just wants this to go away – not enough to be embarrassed on national television, but everyone is suggesting more of a direct apology than his blog entries or interviews on talkshows. Kanye West needs to take out a few pages in some major newspapers with a public apology, make some donations to self-help programs/shelters in Taylor Swift’s name, volunteer for the Big Brother program – something to show he’s willing to actually DO something for others rather than continue to talk about himself in interviews. I’ve really heard more than enough about Kanye West and his ego.
