There’s a reason David Archuleta was honored for his acheivements in music at the 2009 ALMA Awards — he’s freakin’ incredible.
The 18-year-old with a voice that could take down artists twice his age performed on the awards show, which celebrates the best in entertainment by Hispanic artists, singing in complete Spanish. His ballad of choice was “Contigo en la Distancia,” a song made famous in recent years by Christina Aguilera.
If Christina has the ultimate female version, it’s safe to say David owns this song for the guys. His voice was flawless, chill-inducing — nothing short of amazing.

I’ve been a fan of David’s since auditions of Idol (enjoyed him on Star Search at a young age too)…I knew the moment he sang “Heaven” at Idol auditions he was going to be a super star some day. I fell in love with his voice at that moment and have grown to love, in time, the beautiful person that he is. He is “real”…he is approachable, down to earth, loves his family, his fans & his country. I was so proud of his performance tonight as well as the sincere recognition he received, words escape me. I was literally left blown away & speechless. All I can say at this point is …WOW…just…WOW!!

I don’t speak Spanish, but I feel this song and could never get sick of listening to it. David is the best artist we have today! He proves it over and over again. Perfection. The voice will take you places you’ve never been, and you will feel pure joy. Wow. No words to describe this performance. David Archuleta will be with us for decades blessing us with his musicality – aren’t we blessed? I’m, oh, so happy…..

i cannot stop listening to this… i really can’t… david showed why he is such an incredible singer and conveyor of emotion in a song with this performance… i understood not one word of it as sung in spanish, so the focus had to be solely on his voice… and through his voice only, i understood and deeply felt the passion, the emotional yearning of this song. i can’t name a time in recent memory when i was so moved by a performance as much as this one. i may be a fan, and biased in the eyes of most, but david has moved into a whole ‘nother orbit of singers after tonight. anyone still denying his sheer brillance and power as a vocalist has to be in deep, deep denial after listening to this.
I was so proud of David when he sang at the ALMA awards, you would think I was a relative or something. His performance gave me goosebumps and his voice was impeccable! Make an album with some songs in English, some in Spanish. I’m buying it right now!

His Spanish was perfection and his emotion palpable, I could feel it through the TV!! I was so touched by his emotion I cried most of the song.

David Archuleta was the highlight of the show. I don’t understand Spanish but I would definately buy a David Archuleta Spanish CD. Just that voice and the guitar, no prerecordings, no autotune, no second takes, first time was perfection. He sure is one Stunningly Handsome young man with so much class, go get em David, you are loved by millions.

I’m speechless. I don’t speak Spanish and I don’t understand the words, but David makes me feel the song. I was holding my breath most of the time while watching him on TV. It was just a year ago when he was in AI. He is so much improved. I don’t want the song ended, he is such an amazing singer.
