Kris Allen - American Idol/Fox Broadcasting

When you release an ultra-cheesy song like “No Boundaries” as your kinda-sorta first single, Kris Allen, there’s nowhere to go but up. Thank goodness the official first single from Allen’s forthcoming debut album, the carpe diem anthem “Live Like We’re Dying,” is filled with less cheese and more Jason Mraz.

To be more accurate, it’s filled more with The Script, as it’s a cover of one of the band’s B-sides, but the infectious soul-ish pop vibe and staunch positivity is signature Mraz. But even on Idol, it was pretty clear this was the type of music Allen wanted to make: fun, upbeat, sickeningly catchy!

Kris Allen’s as-yet-untitled album is in stores November 17.

So let me get this straight… I understand Allen had to sing cover songs on idol, but why is his first signgle a cover too? That’s sooo lame!

    • Carole says:

To everyone who is critical of Kris’s first release being a cover: What exactly have YOU been doing for the last 9 months? Touring, doing press, trying to put together an album? I didn’t think so. Kris picked a song that he loved and is sharing it with us. If you don’t care for it, don’t listen. Go write one and do it yourself! If you are over 24 and had already decided not to like anything Kris does even if you sort of do, SHAME on you, he’s just a kid. Go play with Perez where you belong, but watch out, he’ll turn on you for attention!

    • Gill says:

Why don’t you Bitterberts go post POSITIVE things on Adam sites instead of attacking Kris? You use the same words. Like MM did below. So PhDude and Kerry which one are you? LOL

I hope Adam looks around sees how his fans are attacking his friend Kris.

  2. Jan says:

To me, there is nothing at all lame about singing a cover song. No doubt Kris will make it his own like he did everything else on AI. Even improve on it. Who made this unwritten rule that covers can never be sung by another artist? To me THAT rule is what is lame.

Can’t wait to hear the rest of Kris’s CD. Even if they were to be all covers (which they won’t) they would all be sung refreshingly new by an extremely talented guy!!

  3. Jules says:

Unfortunately Kris hasn’t made this song his own…he sounds just like the Script!

  4. Alyson says:

    What a rip off.

    • famez says:

You don’t know what you’re talking about. It’s not a rip off. The band was obviously shopping this song around and Kris’s producers were looking for good material for him to record, and they bought it for him. I’m really glad his first single is a good song, instead of the usual shit that Idol winners out out.

      • judy says:

Right. It’s no different from David Archuleta or David Cook putting out songs written by other people as their first singles. This one just happened to have been recorded, but it’s still the same thing. Who ever heard of it?

        • Alyson says:

Hmmmmm let’s see if you can understand this….its different in that this song was recorded and released by another artist already!!! DA and DC have never done that so leave them out of this. Like I said, this is a cop out rip off! It’s lazy and shows he has no originality at this stage in his career!

  5. WhenBitterbertsAttack says:

Once again the Bitterberts, bitter Adam fans are on the attack. I am a Glambert and I love the song. I hate it when Bitterberts attack Kris. They are great friends and these idiots are still at it. They gives us Adam fans a bad name. Good Luck Kris.

    • Alyson says:

Oh give me a break! Not everyone who dislikes this song is an Adam Lambert fan. I don’t care about him. I just don’t like this song. It’s a total cop out to release a cover as your first single. What a waste!

      • lauren says:

LOTS of artists release cover songs. Many of them release cover songs as their debuts. Kris isn’t the first nor will he be the last. It does NOT make them lazy, nor is it a cop out. In this case, Kris has been on the road touring for the last 3 months, his album is due to drop Nov. 17 and the label wanted the single released! If they had had more time, mauybe his debut would have been something he wrote or co-wrote himself. In fact, I would bet you that most of the songs on the album will be written or co-written by Kris.

LLWD is by an up-and-coming group who isn’t well known in the U.S. yet. They are probably thrilled that Kris and his label chose to release this as a single, as it gives the band more notice in the US. The song itself is catchy and upbeat with a good hook, and Kris sings it well.

  6. Amy says:

I love Kris Allen’s new single. This song was not released in the US by the Script, so it is new to this country.

  7. Norbert says:

I’m not a Glambert or a bitterbert or whatever crack you’re spewing. But I agree that releasing a cover after you’ve spent a year of singing covers is the lamest of the lame. This song is not “new”. It’s used.

    • Gill says:

Yeah you are. You just got busted before and now claming you’re not, but you are. You even post the same words on all Kris articles. “the lamest of the lame” and “the song is not “new”. It is used” is what one of the Bitterberts wrote. Busted.

  8. irissss says:

his single is a cover? lol, jive couldn’t buy him some decent songwriters? how sad.

the song is the blandest mediocrity in all of cheesetown. NEXT.

    • Gill says:

Another Glambert and you are using the same words. I think you must be the same person just using different names. Adam and Kris are friends and you people are trying to hurt one of Adam’s friends. What a bunch of losers.

  9. like it! says:

come on people… the guy has been on tour since the AI ride and The Script has shop around their song; it’s legit for an artist to do covers.

AND I love this song. It’s quite catchy and fits him very well. Love the message!

  10. rose says:

It’s obviously a great song and a great vocal, so since people can’t find anything else to criticize they criticize it for being a cover (of a song nobody ever heard of). Typical. Why can’t you just ENJOY it? Or just shut up and let other people enjoy it?

    • Free Speech says:

Rose, I wasn’t planning on commenting on this song. I was just reading the article. But since you are telling people to “shut up” I decided to comment.
Who are you to tell people to shut up on the internet?

The song is boring and bland.
      That is my opinion.
I hope others that read your post telling them to “shut up” if they don’t like the song speak up, also.

      • Gill says:

Once again a Glambert I recognize the same words. Why don’t you Glamberts just go support Adam instead you troll Kris articles?

  11. Nights says:

hmm yall are pretty harsh on a fellow.

  12. Katy says:

I loved and supported Kris from day one whenI saw him sing “Man in the mirror’ and he never disappointed me,until now. I hope he has better songs on his CD. But I’ll support him no matter what because I believe in improvement and growth. I believe he is talented and he has it somewhere inside him, people lets support him and make him a better artist.

  13. Sassy says:

Very disappointing on so many levels. First off, on other sites you can listen to the Scripts version and Kris is about the same. Next, the title is confusingly close to Tim McGraw’s smash hit ‘Live like you were dying’ leading some to think it is another cover of that. He is not singing, but mostly rapping his way through it. This sounds very much like the style of the first release of Season 2 contestant Josh Gracin. Nothing original to Kris about it. It is not in line with his statements that his release would pretty much resemble what he did on the show. That is what we liked, not this cheesy thing.

    • Gill says:

Aren’t you the same Adam fan saying that on every Kris Allen article? hmmm I smell bitterness. In fact the whole Kris article has been attacked by some Adam fans. You are not doing Adam any favors.

    • Gill says:

You go by the name MM or Marie4thofjuly and are an Adam fan on the official Adam fan website.

I hope Adam reads your post and sees how nasty you are.

  14. LH says:

This sucks SO bad. It was nice getting to know you, Kris. Your 15 minutes are almost up…

    • Gill says:

Another Bitterbert with the same words “This sucks SO bad. It was nice getting to know you, Kris. Your 15 minutes are almost up”. I am starting to believe you are only a couple of people, maybe two or three, going to ALL Kris articles and spamming the same thing. And Adam and Kris are friends. You people are low.

  15. Gill says:

Hey Adam…here are a few of your fans attacking Kris. Marie4thofjuly who is MM and Jennifer and Sassy. They are so hateful they have to scour the internet looking for Kris Allen articles. They used to say they were your fans and when they got busted they now say they are not. But who are the only people who post negative crap about Kris? Why all the Bitterberts that is who. Most people would by pass Kris articles UNLESS they really wanted to post…not only that but they scour for Kris articles and spam the same thing over and over and over again using the same words. They think they are helping you Adam, but all they are doing is showing what idiots they are.

    • 19 orchid says:

I’m tried of reading it and hearing the negatives. Both are good artsists with great futures ahead of them. Most importantly….THEY ARE FRIENDS. If you don’t like Kris then quit looking him up. Kris was my pick from the very beginning. BUT I don’t deny that Adam has talent. He just wasn’t my first choice. I wish him well and I know Kris does also. MM and Jennifer…get a life, grow up.

  16. 19 orchid says:

I listen to the interview and the new single….I absolutely love it. I hope he stays the nice person that he is now. I hope all of the top ten do well. It was an enjoyable season. You go Kris..I can’t wait for the album release.

  17. jackson says:

Love you Kris and your music. These jerks posting negatives need to go crawl back under their rock. They don’t know what they’re talking about and showing their stupidity. You need to find something constructive to do. You’re real creeps. If you’re teenagers, your parents need to teach you some manners.
