Allison Iraheta - Jive Records
If it was unclear that Allison Iraheta is a fan of Kelly Clarkson and Pink by her time on season 8 of American Idol where she came in at fourth place, then it’s made 100% crystal clear by the first single from her debut album, “Friday I’ll Be Over U.”
The flame-haired 17-year-old called upon the one man hit factory, Max Martin, to craft the revved up breakup tune.
While the song is undeniably catchy — the “Oh yeah!” and “oh, oh, oh” refrains gets stuck in your head almost instantaneously — and even stands to fair quite well on the pop charts, I had hoped she would go for a more pop-less rock sound. Originality is replaced by the need to get a hit record, and the true ability of Iraheta’s smokey voice, often compared to a young Janis Joplin, is lost in the song’s generic landscape.
Still, I won’t write Allison off as an artist, just writing off this song. It is just too much like everything I’ve already heard.

I’m sorry, but the song ROCKS!!!! It’s amazing. Older generations won’t like it, because it’s not meant for you guys…sorry. You are just old, and don’t belong in the 12-25 year old age category.
ROCKS is RIGHT! AND many of us old dudes luv it. We CAN fully appreciate this song. A roclin’ song, fine artist, and great production should be recognizable and appreciated by the “old ones” in particular! If you cannot appreciate the excellence here, u ain’ old; u r decrepit!
I love this song too…Did u really think that they would go janis on the first album? No! The girl is only 17 and going rock is not going to sell in this music industry, which is sad but its the truth.
If BB Allison can get a 2nd album, I definitely think she’ll experiment more. Like what you saw with Pink. (she started very R&B, but in her next albums, she definitely got into more of a pop/rock sound.)
you haters of Allison’s Friday I’ll Be Over You only hate because the first people on this site were Overestimating her. She is a surprisingly good sing, though she not the best ” there is always someone better than you.” ” In My Opinion at least…

What a lame song-sooooo disappointed. This is the best Max Martin can produce?
Completely strip away any originality.
I will never buy and I am 18.NEVER
This song definitely reminds me of a Kelly Clarkson song… except underwhelming. It’s too overproduced and I have a hard time appreciating her vocals hidden under all the guitars and drums. I am a HUGE Kelly Clarkson fan (and I’ll admit that the same writer’s “My Life Would suck Without You” is also overproduced)and I think I can be a fan of Allison, we just need a re-do with a better song. I’m curious to hear the other songs on her CD. Why must they overproduce these songs? In the cases of Allison Iraheta and Kelly Clarkson, both are extremely talented and don’t need extra production.
Michael do you ever buy music? I think you’re one of those that always look for the free ones, so why would Allison care about your negative comment if you’re NO GONNA BUY IT?? If you don’t like it ALELUYA!!!!! get the freak out of here!!! I love the song!!!
WOW! destined for top chart. Can easily make # 1, top 10 for sure. Who is this singer! Where has she been!
It’s a great song! Which of the young divas sings with such power and conviction. Alli is in her own space – and owns it! Altho not our pick of throw back rock, Jive has given her a huge chance to leap to success in a cut throat industry. For so doing, we may be rewarded with some of the soulful, rocky stuff in the near future, perhaps on an album track!
