Happy 90210 Day!: Musical Moments From The Show We Loved
September 2, 2010 by JNJ

Who could forget Kelly’s bangs, Donna’s virginity, Steve’s bicep, Brandon and Dylan’s non-shifting 1950s hairdos, everybody’s drug problems at some point, and that icky Brenda/Dylan/Kelly triangle that tested friendships across the world? If you happen to be of the limited variety that actually is having a memory lapse, well have no fear. “90210 Day’ is here!
This is it, a memorable day that only happens once in a lifetime! While others will tune into the tube to catch a marathon somewhere, we at Neon Limelight figured what better way to celebrate September 2, 2010—9.02.10—than going down music history lane with “the zip code that started it all?”
Remember the days when your favorite weekly primetime soap (and The Peach Pit guest performances) spawned original soundtracks and videos from the likes of 90s faves Shanice, Color Me Badd, Vanessa Williams & Brian McKnight, and hottie Jeremy Jordan? Well before there was Eminem and Asher Roth, and after there was Vanilla Ice and Marky Mark, there was Brian Green—rap alter-ego of Brian Austin Green, otherwise known as our favorite geek turned DJ at Beverly Hills High—David Silver. Don’t believe us? Check out his hip-hop skills from his single “You Send Me” off his debut and final album: One Stop Carnival.
While the man behind the love of Donna Martin’s life didn’t quite make it onto the Billboard Charts (or the 90210 soundtrack for that matter), we love him and his hotness all the same!
Chris Brown Goes No. 1 With “Deuces,” Plans ‘Fan Of A Fan’ Tour With Tyga

It’s official: Chris Brown is having the best week ever.
After seeing his movie, Takers, become the No. 1 movie in the country, he gets to enjoy seeing his single, “Deuces,” sit pretty on top of the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
The track, which features Young Money rapper Tyga and newcomer rapper/producer Kevin “K-Mac” McCall, is taken from Breezy’s Fan of a Fan mixtape, a joint project he released to the internet for free with Tyga in May.
Along with being No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart, “Deuces” moves from 29-24 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
Fans will get a chance to see Breezy and Tyga perform “Deuces” live in a city near them, as the two are planning to hit the road together soon, Tyga told MTV’s Mixtape Daily. “We’re actually working on a tour right now,” Tyga said. “A Fan of Fan Tour at the end of the year. It’ll be dope.”
As previously reported, Brown is already working on new music. He’s announced the upcoming release of a new single, “Calypso,” which will be out “real soon.”

Katy Perry - Teenage Dream
If Katy Perry’s teenage dream was to knock Eminem from No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart one day, then dreams really do come true.
The 25-year-old pop sensation takes No. 1 this week with the release of her sophomore album, Teenage Dream. The set, led by the former No. 1 single “California Gurls” featuring Snoop Dogg, sold 192,000 copies in its first week out, according to Nielsen SoundScan and reported by Billboard. The tally more than triples the first week total of her debut, One of the Boys. That album started with just 47,000 copies at No. 9.
American Idol season 3 winner, Fantasia, starts at No. 2 with her third album, Back To Me. The album sold 117,000 copies.
Eminem’s former chart-topper, Recovery, sits at No. 3 after selling 98,000 copies. It’s the first week since its June release that it has failed to pull in more than 100,000 copies.

T.I. And Wife Arrested For Drug Possession In Hollywood

After starting the week on a high note with the news that his movie, Takers, went to No. 1, T.I.’s week went downhill quickly Wednesday (September 1).
According to TMZ, the rapper and his new wife, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, were arrested in West Hollywood for alleged possession of a controlled substance.
Law enforcement officials apparently pulled the couple’s car over, and after smelling marijuana, searched the vehicle, then made their arrests.
The pair’s bail has been set at $10,000.
The arrest news is particularly bad for T.I. fans, as he’s is on probation after serving time in prison on weapons possession charges last year.
This story is still developing.

Chris Brown is on top of the world — and the charts — right now. His new movie, “Takers,” went straight to No. 1 over the weekend, pulling in $20.6 million, and his single, “Deuces” featuring Tyga and Kevin McCall, is currently poised to overtake the Billboard Hot R&B and Hip-Hop songs chart.
Well, Team Breezy, get ready to dougie to more good news. Breezy is releasing a brand new single.
The 21-year-old singer announced the new single on Twitter tonight (September 1). “Geeked UP!!! NEW SINGLE called ‘Calypso’ coming real soon produced by POLOW DA DON,” he wrote, “this is a song that women have been missing from ME!!”
No word on if “Calypso” will lead a new studio album or a new mixtape, which he hinted at releasing early last month.
Exclusive: Producer Jim Jonsin Dishes On T.I.’s “Incredible” New Album

Upon Atlanta rapper T.I.’s release from prison, stemming from his 2007 arrest on gun charges, it was announced that the “King of the South” would be issuing his seventh studio album, King Uncaged, roughly around the same time his #1 Box Office hit, “Takers”, was scheduled for release. However, realizing the time and energy it would take to move forward in promotional campaigns for both a new movie and new album (and squeeze a wedding in between), Tip felt it best that his professional efforts were solely committed to one project at a time. Thus resulting in the pushback of his new album from mid-August until the end of September—the 28th to be exact.
With last weekend’s winning Box Office release behind him, the rapper-turned-actor is all set to focus on his new album release. We caught up with the producing architect behind his 2008 hit, “Whatever You Like”, Jim Jonsin, who also put in time with the rapper for his upcoming release. When asked how or if T.I.’s lyrics and music has evolved as a result of his trial, jail sentence, and release, Jim told NeonLimelight.com, “Honestly, I think he’s using some of that, but I don’t… I just heard him doing some great songs. It wasn’t all about what he’s gone through. I think he did spell it out in a couple of songs, but it wasn’t all about that. ”
The hit collaborators worked on a few songs Jonsin hopes make the cut for Uncaged because “they’re incredible,” he shares. And what of the new album’s direction? “I couldn’t tell you because he wasn’t even close to being done when we were in there.” What Jonsin could share was this: “He’s just writing some good, solid music.”
Sounds like “The King” is back and ready to be unleashed.
Beyonce Has Not Fired Mathew Knowles As Her Manager, Label Says

Beyonce
Rumors hit the internet recently that Beyonce joined her former Destiny’s Child bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams in firing her father, Mathew Knowles, as her manager. In his place, it was rumored, Beyonce would allow her business savvy rapper/mogul husband, Jay-Z, to guide her approaching-legendary career.
File this under big fat rumor, this according to Mr. Knowles’ Music World Entertainment. In a statement, the label puts the kibosh of the false info, saying, “Contrary to false rumors online, Beyoncé and her manager Mathew Knowles unequivocally have had and continue to have a close personal and business relationship. Mathew Knowles is the sole and exclusive manager of Beyoncé.”
The rumors kicked up just as news that Beyonce was heading back into the studio to get to work on her fourth studio album. She’s spending time this week with singer/songwriter Ne-Yo, who penned her Grammy-winning hit “Irreplaceable.”
New Music: JoJo Goes “In The Dark” For Mixtape Single Release

JoJo
It’s been a while since fans have heard official new music from 19-year old R&B/Pop singer JoJo. Four long years to be exact, and in that time as Jojo herself has matured, so has her music. To hold fans over until her new album drops, JoJo’s ready to introduce fans to her musical growth with the mixtape release of Can’t Take That Away From Me. First single up? The sultry, yet not over-sexy “In The Dark.”
In the track, the singer shares her thoughts on an undefined, no-strings relationship. “Never took this road before/Love was always at the core/ Of anyone I’ve been with before,” she shares. And she knows “that it’s wrong,” but she “keeps holding on.” The sensual track is unlike anything fans have heard from the young singer. With production by Jordan Gatsby, the song fluently manages to bring forth a grown-up image of the singer through subtle lyrical expression versus raunchy wordplay too often used by most. And although there are subtle hints of auto-tune usage, it’s clear the young starlet’s voice is as powerful now as it was when she was 15.
Find out what happens when a woman only knows him “In The Dark” and see if you’re feeling Jojo’s new sound. Can’t Take That Away From Me drops September 7th on Rap-Up.com, in preparation for the release of her third studio album, All I Want Is Everything.

Video: Justin Bieber Rocks Madison Square Garden With Miley Cyrus, Usher, Ludacris, More
Justin Bieber alone was enough to bring the screams at Madison Square Garden to a (Bieber) fever pitch, but things got even louder when Bieber decided to bring a few famous friends to assist him with his big performance.
The 16-year-old sensation brought out R&B group Boyz II Men to give his “U Smile” a smooth feel. “My mom raised me on you guys,” Bieber told the group, paying his respects before they sang a bit of “Down On Bended Knee” together. He then continued bringing out special guests like his mentor Usher for “Somebody To Love,” Miley Cyrus for an up close and personal duet of “Overboard,” Jaden Smith for “Never Say Never,” Sean Kingston for “Eenie Meenie,” and Ludacris on “Baby.”
The concert was being taped for Justin’s 3D concert movie, in theaters later this year.
