Chris Brown’s Bow Tie Makes Triumphant Return As He Discusses Rihanna, Music, And More With Angie Martinez

Chris Brown gave Angie Martinez of New York’s Hot 97 his first radio interview since the February altercation with Rihanna and his subsequent guilty plea — he says it’ll also serve as his last interview on the incident.

Dressed in a black shirt, blue jeans, white sneakers and a purple bow tie (“That’s my new steez,” he said of bow ties), Brown took on some tough questions about the aftermath of the night, though, just like his interview with Larry King, he declined to get specific about what led up to the assault out of respect for Rihanna — whom he’d constantly refer to as “shawty.”

A few highlights:

• Chris understands why people may be mad at him but says “At the end of the day, I’m human”
• He would not discuss whether or not he was injured in the altercation
• He believes Jay-Z had nothing to do with his not performing at the BET Awards
• He says in the music industry “I’m not a happy person”
• Will Smith and Diddy called to have a man-to-man talk
• He’s “pretty sure” Rihanna’s camp “aint effin” with him “like that” and he’s not on their “get back with guy” list
• He says he’s still mad about Oprah’s show on domestic violence
• He says his domestic violence counseling classes are “very helpful” and he would do it even if it weren’t court-appointed. “Counseling is great!”
• He wanted to send the JK Wedding Dance couple a wedding gift for using “Forever.” “That put me back on the map on iTunes!”
• He was “scared and nervous” on Larry King and didn’t want to do the interview initially
• He’s not afriad that Rihanna may give her first interview on Good Morning America
• He’s going to take his time with dating and focus on music, but says “I have have feelings for shawty”
• His new album will focus heavily on his life currently
