Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to attempted weapon possession today (October 22) in a Manhattan, New York courtroom, and faces up to a year in jail, the Associated Press reports.

The rapper, who has collaborated with everyone from Jay-Z to Madonna, was arrested in 2007 when police officers pulled his tour bus over because they had seen and smelled marijuana smoke coming from the bus after leaving a concert.

Upon search of the bus, they found a gun in a Louis Vuitton bag. Testing of the weapon yielded a small bit of Lil Wayne’s DNA.

Lil Wayne, born Dwayne Carter, originally pleaded not guilty to the charges, which normally carry a three and a half year jail sentence, but was lessened as a term of his plea deal.

He will be sentenced in February 2010 and will likely serve 8-10 months based on good behavior, MTV reports.

He still faces trial in Arizona on drug and weapons charges stemming from another post-concert arrest in 2008.

Why do they insist on living the stereotype? Is carrying a gun a prerequisite to become a rap (artist). What a liberal use of the word (artist). It is as bad as calling Kanye West a (genius). Give me a break. BET has a very poor track record of awarding upstanding individuals. It seems like the more money you have, the more you can get your sentence reduced. This reminds me of Princes song “Sign O’ the Times”. A portion of the lyrics are, “At home there are seventeen-year-old boys, and their idea of fun, is being in a gang called the disciples, high on crack, totin a machine gun.” Prince was the true musical genius. Everything that has followed has been filler.
