Luck was on rapper Kanye West’s side as criminal charges stemming from a year-old paparazzi altercation resulting in his arrest, were dismissed in a Los Angeles courtroom today (October 23).
Kanye was arrested on September 11, 2008 along with his road manager Don Crawley after getting into a heated dispute with photographers at Los Angeles International Airport before boarding a flight to Hawaii. In a video of altercation, released by TMZ, West and Crawley can be seen wrestling cameras away from the photographers before breaking it to pieces.
In March, the two men were charged with misdemeanor vandalism, grand theft and battery.
The charges were dropped due in part to a civil settlement being reached between West and the photographers and his attorney, Blair Berk, arguing that the case was “wildly overcharged” according to the Associated Press.
In exchange for dismissing the criminal charges against him, Kanye is required to complete 50 hours of community service, reports CNN.
