Degrassi Throwback In Honor Of Drake’s 23rd Birthday

October’s very own Drake turns 23 years old today, and while it’s something to be excited about for his newer fans, we here at Neon Limelight are in full on celebration mode since we’ve watched the Toronto native go from teen actor (with one unfortunate haircut) on the Canadian drama Degrassi: The Next Generation to one of the most promising rappers in the game.

As he tweets about wanting Keri Hilson to sing her sexy single “Slow Dance” to him for his ultimate birthday gift, we started thinking about an episode of Degrassi where his character, the pre-paralysis Jimmy Brooks, wanted nothing more than to spend his 14th birthday with his girlfriend, Ashley Kerwin (played by Melissa McIntyre).

Things were going to be different this year. His parents, who are always working, promised to be home to cook a lobster dinner for him and Ash. The Jimster ruined his chances of the perfect b-day by being too clingy, having dinner with Ashley’s family every night for over a week leading up to the big day. Ashley started to feel suffocated. She devises a plan to break up with him but wanted to wait until after his big day. Her little brother, who is close with Jimmy, overheard and told Jimmy.

He plays along with Ashley’s plan to wait until the end of the day when he gets home to discover a voice message by his mom telling him dinner plans were off. Jimmy breaks up with Ashley instead and has a lonely man pizza for one. Total sad face!

Needless to say Drake’s birthday will be much better. He’ll be partying in Washington DC with his pal Trey Songz at club Love where there will be plenty of ladies to save him from any b-day blues.
