New York City is one of the most recognizable and beloved cities in the United States so when it came time to shoot the video for his new single, Empire State of Mind, featuring Grammy award winning singer Alicia Keys, Jay-Z thought NYC was the perfect backdrop. It also makes sense since the song is actually about the Big Apple.
Starting in black and white, the video showcases some of NYC’s many landmarks before ending in color with the two stars, both New York natives, performing together for the city they love and call home.
Empire State of Mind is the official second single off Jay-Z’s latest album The Blueprint 3. Just last night, the two megastars performed the single at New York’s famous Yankees Stadium during game two the World Series.

Love this song for Alicia Key, but can Jay-Z come up with another idea for his raps beside gloating? Ugg. I cringe every time I hear his lyrics.
