Rihanna Describes Media Attention After Assault As ‘Waking Up Britney Spears’

Rihanna will be honored as one of Glamour magazine’s 2009 Women of the Year, and as part of the honor, she gave the mag a long-awaited interview about her life since that fateful night in February.

“I went to sleep as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears,” she says of the media circus that followed when news broke that she had been assaulted by then-boyfriend Chris Brown the night before the Grammys. “That was the level of media chaos that happened the next day.”

Although she didn’t immediately step up to become something of a face for domestic violence, it looks like she will. “The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that. I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn’t heard.”

Accompanying the revealing interview will be a full spread of glamorous photos and a special event in New York City on Monday, November 9.
