Video: Rihanna Breaks Silence On Good Morning America, Tells Young Girls ‘Don’t React Off Of Love’

Rihanna broke her silence this morning on Good Morning America, speaking candidly for the first time about the night her then-boyfriend, pop star Chris Brown, beat her in their rented Lamborghini the night before the Grammys last February.

Hearing her story was chilling. The 21-year-old star says she was ashamed to have her private ordeal so public. “Why be ashamed,” Diane Sawyer asked. “I didn’t want people to think that that’s the kind of person — I fell in love with that person,” Rihanna answered. “That’s embarrassing. That’s embarrassing that that’s the type of person that I fell in love with. So far in love. So unconditional that I went back.”

When Rihanna and Sawyer discussed the statistics (on average it takes a woman eight or nine instances of abuse before leaving), Rihanna says “I don’t want that to happen,” but says it’s “completely normal to go back.”

“When I realized that my selfish decision for love could result into some young girl getting killed,” she said, holding back emotion, “I could not be easy with that part. I could not be held responsible for telling them go back.”

“Even if Chris never hit me again, who’s to say that their boyfriend won’t?…That was a wake up call for me.”

Rihanna says she had to take herself out of the situation with Chris to see it for what it really is. “Don’t react off of love. F’ love.”

Watch part one of the interview above and tune in for part two tomorrow on ABC at 7am EST.
