Album Preview: Rihanna – Rated R
Love her or hate her, Rihanna’s fourth album, Rated R, is one of the most anticipated albums of 2009. After all, the 21-year-old star became the hottest thing on the pop planet with her last release, Good Girl Gone Bad, and everyone’s waiting to see if she can keep the momentum going.
The entire album won’t be available for another two weeks, but 30-second preview clips have surfaced thanks to the wonderful internet.
A rocky year in her personal life has clearly impacted the sound of the new set. Where GGGB was fun, upbeat and spunky, Rated R is sonically dark and driven more by its lyrical content than blasting beats.
Rih really vents, especially in the mellow tracks like “Stupid In Love,” “Photographs” featuring Will.i.am, and the Justin Timberlake-penned “Cold Case Love.”
Everything isn’t all doom and gloom, though. “Rude Boy” is fun and sexy and destined for Top 40 radio. “Rockstar 101″ sounds totally bad ass thanks in part to former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash.

I don’t know if I’m very excited yet. Some sound good but I miss the gggb sound.
I hate 30 second clips. You can never really tell what a song sounds like from them. I’ll wait until I can hear the whole album.
I have to say, I LOVE THIS. I dunno, her new music has been really engaging. It wasn’t until Take A Bow, Disturbia, Run This Town that I really started to love her music – and she’s bringing those vibes full force. More power!!
I agree with Shakeera Rated R does not excite me yet either, however some of the songs are ok and decent. GGGB was fun, retro, and unique. I have all Rihannas albums, but this time I will burn some tracks.
