Considering all Rihanna‘s been through over the past year, fans might find it hard to watch the video for her new single, “Russian Roulette.” Besides, just listening to the song is tough, but you’ll wanna suck it up and click play as not to miss seeing the pop star’s most riveting video yet.
Rihanna says the song is a metaphor — sometimes in love someone gets hurt, but she’s taking the chance anyway. Sure enough in the video, she and her leading man are playing a game of Russian roulette, but who loses? Does she beat the master? Or do they both come up short? We find out while getting to see stunning, yet dark, almost graphic images play out along the way.

Those guys are putting her through life changing tests (death) to see if she will survive them and she does because she is invulnerable to death. That’s why they test her to see if she will survive the gas chamber, car, under water shooting and the Russian Roulette game.

Why this song is a hit I will never know. Please dont tell me it is about staying in bad relationship. The video is boring and disturbing just like the song. I think that she should have shown some inspiration with this new single. She could have talked about what she went through and sung some inspirational lyrics on how strong she is from coming from a dark situation. I guess since I have grown older I dont just listen to anything anymore. For girls in abusive situations I think this is the last thing they want to listen to.
CG Girl, I don’t really think you’re listening to the lyrics. The song isn’t about staying in a abusive relationship, it’s about surviving a tribulation and moving past it. Pass this test, etc. I think the video shows that quite clearly. As for the song, it’s a matter of taste. I can’t enough of it. I think it’s a brilliant production along the lines of Madonna’s ‘Live to Tell’. In context both are different compared to what was popular. Let’s not forget this is a Ne-Yo track. For him this is absolutely new territory.
