Events: 2009 American Music Awards – Backstage And Audience

Sure, there was a lot of action on stage last night at the 2009 American Music Awards, but some of the best moments and meetings happened backstage and in the audience.

Take the moment pictured above for example. Two of American Idol’s hottest alums, Adam Lambert and Carrie Underwood, pose with the Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul Mary J. Blige.

Adam also made the rounds taking photos with the amazing Lady GaGa and his close friend and American Idol season 8 winner Kris Allen.

Rihanna hopped off stage after giving her eye-popping performance (in an equally eye-popping outfit!) and gave a rockstar pose backstage. In case you’re wondering, the mock tattoo running down her neck and chest says “Rated R,” which is the name of her new album in stores today.

Jay-Z got in some camera time with his good pal Ne-Yo, then chatted up Nicole Kidman.

Alicia Keys brought the house down with two performances last night, but another highlight was posing with Whitney Houston.

Jennifer Lopez’s performance to mark her return to music was a bit, uh, slippery, but at least she had her husband Marc Anthony by her side.

Carrie Underwood was snapped leaving the stage after her sexy performance of “Cowboy Casanova” and smiling in the audience as she sat next to Mary J. Blige.

Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day chatted with apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas in the audience, while Will.i.am posed backstage following their energetic performance.

An absolutely radiant Whitney Houston posed backstage with her award for International Artist of the Year award.
