It’s splitsville for Day26. No, the group who rose to fame on Diddy’s MTV reality show Making The Band isn’t breaking up, but they are reportedly leaving Bad Boy Records.

Group member Willie Taylor told AOL’s TheBoomBox.com Day26 are packing it up and leaving their longtime label home behind. “Bad Boy is always our family, but we’re with Atlantic right now,” he told the website.

Their fate was left up in the air when Diddy and Bad Boy parted ways with Atlantic and signed a distribution deal with Interscope earlier this year for the release of his new album Last Train to Paris.

Now on their own, the boys are working on their third album, which member Brian Angel told Neon Limelight they’ve been working on since they wrapped their last effort, Forever and a Day. “We actually got started with the third album right after we finished the second album,” he told us. “The work never stops. We’re definitely writing and recording, making contacts with producers, networking, doing whatever we gotta do to make Day26 the super-group that it needs to be.”

In the same interview, he was also very complimentary about Day26’s then label home, trying his best to dead any speculation that they were unhappy with the treatment artists receive there and the infamous “Bad Boy curse.” “There is no such thing as the Bad Boy curse, there is no such thing as Diddy messing up his artists.

“You have to be smart when it comes to your business and a lot of artists, they get tied up in the name. “Oh my God! That’s Diddy!” And they automatically sign whatever not knowing that the music industry is designed for the labels to win. A lot of artists don’t know about that.”

“Take your paperwork to your attorney,” he continued. “You have the right to negotiate. That’s where a lot of artists mess up and tend to run into problems. Day26, we definitely do not fall into that category.”
