Kerli and Lady GaGa - Vespertine, Tom Munro/Elle
Estonian pop princess Kerli made quite a name for herself on the gossip blog circuit with one tiny status update on her Myspace page yesterday that ripped into international superstar Lady GaGa. “It’s kinda f*cking funny that Lady Gaga ALSO has yellow hair now,†Kerli, who is currently sporting yellow locks, wrote. “I wish she would f*cking stop ripping off everything I do. F*cking b*tch.â€
As GaGa’s little monsters began spewing venom of their own in Kerli’s direction, the “Walking On Air” singer removed the status and took to her Kyte channel to express her regret over the uncharacteristically vicious post and offer her apologies. “I feel awful right now,” she said in the chat, that ran over an hour long. “I wish I wouldn’t have done it. I don’t want anyone to think I have anything bad to say about her [Lady GaGa] because I’ve always said that she’s awesome at what she does, and I’ve been watching her career long before anybody knew who she was and met her long before anybody knew who she was.”
She went further to explain what set her off in the first place. “This morning I was reading the news and I saw that Lady GaGa also had yellow hair,” she said. “I’ve been doing so much to not look anything like her and I feel like everything I do she’ll do two weeks later.
“I’m starting my next album cycle and I’m trying to look different so I don’t get these comparisons, right. But it’s like every time I do something different and I post a picture up on Myspace, she’s also looking the same way within two week’s time.”
She continued: “Obviously I’m not competing for number one hits and I’ve never really said anything in a pissed off kinda way because I didn’t want to be that person who like was nobody and then was screaming, you know, when somebody else was standing on top of the mountain and ruling the world, but this morning I was like I know she knows who I am and I’m good friends with some of the members of her team and, you know what, it’s just a little much that I’m trying so hard not to look anything like her and she’ll just end up looking like me anyway.”
“I just lost it for a second and I called her a bitch. It was really immature of me and I should have kept it to myself ’cause I know the world would take it completely the wrong way.”
She reiterated these sentiments a couple more times before moving on to talk about her new album in the works, the follow-up to 2008′s Love Is Dead, which she says is due in the first half of 2010.
Later in the chat, she thanked her fans for their support and added, “I really f*cked up this morning, but you know I’m right. I’m not crazy. I haven’t said anything for the longest time. All of her fans are trashing me all over my videos on YouTube so I might as well f*cking say something.”
KERLIE you shouldnt apologize. It is your right to speak your mind. If Gaga seems to be copying what you do, well, then tell it like it is, so the truth will be known! (Well, maybe no cussing, so they dont call you a bitch too, lol)..but just say it in a matter of fact way.

Hardly an apology. They’re both glam rockers, and their roots go way back. Where would they be without Judy Garland, Liberace, David Bowie, Queen and Andy Warhol? Lady Gaga credits her influences and has made the point that most people’s musical and art references don’t go back very far. As for yellow hair or whatever, no one has trade marked anything, and everyone uses what comes to mind. Now people are being accused of taking from Gaga. Big deal. Gaga’s success isn’t reducible to an accessory or hair color. She’s successful for having put together the whole package – music, fashion, performance.

Not a girl desperately tired of being accused of being called a Lady Gaga ripoff when it’s Kerli’s ideas that are being stolen at every turn? I think it’s pretty clear watching her apology video that she didn’t mean to start a fire, and was just sick of having to keep quiet about it.
If this was really the case, she could have told Lady Gaga personally about her frustrations. She didn’t have to cuss her out on her myspace page. Doing this so publicly is definitely a cry for attention. Furthermore, I can think of MANY examples of popular stars copying Lady Gaga’s looks… and you don’t see her bashing them. Apology totally unnecessary. Kerli’s not the first to comment on Gaga stealing her idendity, and I’m sure she won’t be the last. At least in this case, there are videos, pictures and interviews available on the internet that prove Kerli’s right–that they knew each other long before either artist came out, and that Kerli’s looks, ideas and concepts always predate Gaga’s exact matches by weeks or months. Totally unfair that the people on top feel justified in stealing. Can you imagine how it would feel to want desperately to be yourself and have somebody else take it from you?

Couldn’t say it better than you did. I completely agree. When I was younger, I was good at drawing and I had this “friend” who wanted to be an artist, but she kinda sucked at drawing. So she always took my drawings and told everyone that she drew them… And everyone always said, “##### is the best artist!” and I wasn’t even thought of as someone that could draw. After a month though, I started putting my name on my drawings, LOL. Then everyone knew that she was taking credit, and she was hated by EVERYONE, so she moved schools. Damn I hated that bitch! She completely used me. Hope she isn’t doing that to someone else now. So maybe with Kerli, Gaga fans will realize how un-original Lady Gaga really is, and maybe Kerli will be noticed. Gaga has always said she gets a lot of her inspiration from Madonna, David Bowie, the 80′s and so on. She admits to that. I can guarantee you that if Gaga got the littlest bit of her inspiration from Kerli, she would’ve said it. Sure they may have some similarities, but what makes them look the same is pretty much the hair. There style in outfits is nothing alike if you haven’t realized. Gaga wears more glamorous and colourful outfits. Kerli wears more Gothic and black and white outfits. They’re both unique and different. Especially music wise, Gaga has more electro-pop, electronic dance, pop music, Kerli has more pop and alternative rock music. Music video wise, Kerli generally has a darker theme than Gaga, and there music videos are nothing alike, there outfits as well are completely different, Gaga has never worn a tutu, from what I can see, Kerli has never worn crystal or mickey mouse sunglasses and dresses with origami crystals on them from what I’ve seen. So basically, minus the hair(I bet you that yellow hair wasn’t even Gaga’s real hair, she has hundreds of wigs), they are nothing alike. And personally, I have nothing against Kerli, in fact I like her a lot, her songs don’t really show her singing talent, it’s not something you can hear in a lot of her songs. And Gaga, hear Speechless, Pokerface acoustic version, and Paparazzi acoustic version and you can hear her actual voice.

But it would be awesome if they did something together, two completely different styles, both completely unique and different together, would be awesome.
Ever since Gaga was a child she’s been into fashion and she doesn’t only wear what she does to be unique, she wears what she thinks is fashion. So probably around 2000/earlier she was really into this kind of stuff, but afraid of not fitting in because what she wore was always too eccentric and such. She went through phases where she didn’t dress like that, sure, but people who say it’s just an image and stuff, Gaga is who she is, people change there fashion and style with time, doesn’t mean it’s all an act.
