Vampire Weekend’s First No. 1 Album Puts Ke$ha’s “Animal” On A Leash

Vampire Weekend

Adored indie rockers Vampire Weekend score their first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 album chart this week with their sophomore effort, Contra, which sold an impressive 124,000 copies, according to Nielsen Soundscan.

Billboard.com reports it’s the New York natives’ best chart placement, and best sales week. Their self-titled debut album entered with 28,000 copies and peaked at No. 17.

Last week’s chart-topper, Animal by partygirl Ke$ha, tumbles to No. 3 after selling 67,000 copies. That rounds out to a typical second week sales hit of 56%.

Susan Boyle, who had her six-week chart reign ended by Ke$ha last week, rebounds to No. 2 after selling 77,000 copies. Boyle has a strong chance of regaining the top spot next week after a high-profile appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
