Music fans across the globe are getting psyched for the 52nd annual Grammy Awards going down tonight live at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. We all want to know who will walk away with the most awards or who will cause the big upset.
Will Beyonce finally break the 5 in one night record for a female artist? She’s nominated for a leading 10. It could happen. Will Taylor Swift carry her hot streak in on the biggest night in music? Or will Lady GaGa snatch the gold from them both?
We’ll find out officially tonight, but we wanted to play Miss Cleo and offer some predictions. Here’s who we think should win and will win in a few select categories:
Best Female Pop Vocal Performance
- Hometown Glory – Adele
- Halo – Beyoncé
- Hot N Cold – Katy Perry
- Sober – Pink
- You Belong With Me – Taylor Swift
Should win: If the category is true to its name, the best vocal performance was given by Adele.
Will win: Taylor Swift. It’s one of the safest categories to allow Swifty to snatch trophies without causing a riot.
Best Male Pop Vocal Performance
- This Time – John Legend
- Love You – Maxwell
- Make It Mine – Jason Mraz
- If You Don’t Know Me By Now – Seal
- All About The Love Again – Stevie Wonder
Should win: Jason Mraz. There are better vocal performances here, but “male pop” says it all.
Will win: Stevie Wonder or John Legend.
Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals
- I Gotta Feeling – The Black Eyed Peas
- We Weren’t Born To Follow – Bon Jovi
- Never Say Never – The Fray
- Sara Smile – Daryl Hall & John Oates
- Kids – MGMT
Should win: Black Eyed Peas. It’s their year.
Will win: Black Eyed Peas. It’s their year.
Best Pop Vocal Album
- The E.N.D. – The Black Eyed Peas
- Breakthrough – Colbie Caillat
- All I Ever Wanted – Kelly Clarkson
- The Fray – The Fray
- Funhouse – Pink
Should win: All I Ever Wanted by Kelly Clarkson. Superb album from start to finish.
Will win: The E.N.D. by Black Eyed Peas. It’s their year.
Best Dance Recording
- Boom Boom Pow – The Black Eyed Peas
- When Love Takes Over – David Guetta & Kelly Rowland
- Poker Face – Lady Gaga
- Celebration – Madonna
- Womanizer – Britney Spears
Should win: Poker Face.
Best Female R&B Vocal Performance
- Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) – Beyoncé
- It Kills Me – Melanie Fiona
- That Was Then – Lalah Hathaway
- Goin’ Thru Changes – Ledisi
- Lions, Tigers & Bears – Jazmine Sullivan
Should win: Melanie Fiona, hands down. It’s no secret we’ve been in MF’s corner from day one, and she deserves to take this one home.
Will win: Beyonce. She’ll sweep every R&B category even if Single Ladies is truly a pop song. Gotta throw Beyonce a few bones just in case she’s disappointed in the major categories.
Best Male R&B Vocal Performance
- The Point Of It All – Anthony Hamilton
- Pretty Wings – Maxwell
- Sobeautiful – Musiq Soulchild
- Under – Pleasure P
- There Goes My Baby – Charlie Wilson
Should win: Maxwell! He made a great return with a great song.
Will win: Maxwell.
Best Rap/Sung Collaboration
- Ego – Beyoncé & Kanye West
- Knock You Down – Keri Hilson, Kanye West & Ne-Yo
- Run This Town – Jay-Z, Rihanna & Kanye West
- I’m On A Boat – The Lonely Island & T-Pain
- Dead And Gone – T.I. & Justin Timberlake
Should win: “Knock You Down” or “Run This Town.”
Will win: This is a tough one. Beyonce is Grammy’s darling this year, but as far as true blue rap/sung collabos go, Keri, Kanye and Ne-Yo should be facing off with Jay, Rihanna, and Kanye. All three songs have the Kanye strike against them (we don’t think Grammy voters are being nice to him this year), but “Run This Town” has the “safe” rap pick and vet Jay-Z. Plus the “pity” voters might lean toward Rihanna after her rough year. We’re gonna go with “Run This Town” for the win.
Best New Artist
- Zac Brown Band
- Keri Hilson
- MGMT
- Silversun Pickups
- The Ting Tings
Should win: Thanks to the exclusion of Lady GaGa, Keri Hilson is the next best choice. She’s put in the work and has the hit singles to back up her nomination and possible win.
Will win: This one could easily be taken by MGMT. The Grammys are known for not awarding the obvious choice.
Record Of The Year (song award)
- Halo – Beyoncé
- I Gotta Feeling – The Black Eyed Peas
- Use Somebody – Kings Of Leon
- Poker Face – Lady Gaga
- You Belong With Me – Taylor Swift
Should win: The Black Eyed Peas
Will win: Tough catagory but in the end, The Black Eyed Peas will more than likey take it for delivering THE party anthem for many, many years to come.
Song Of The Year (songwriters’ award)
- Poker Face – Lady Gaga & RedOne, songwriters (Lady Gaga)
- Pretty Wings – Hod David & Musze, songwriters (Maxwell)
- Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) – Thaddis Harrell, Beyoncé Knowles, Terius Nash & Christopher Stewart, songwriters (Beyoncé)
- Use Somebody – Caleb Followill, Jared Followill, Matthew Followill & Nathan Followill, songwriters (Kings Of Leon)
- You Belong With Me – Liz Rose & Taylor Swift, songwriters (Taylor Swift)
Should win: If we’re basing it purely off of the written lyrics as the category’s criteria suggests, this will be a toss up between Maxwell’s Pretty Wings and Kings of Leon’s Use Somebody.
Will win: Because the Grammys adore Beyonce and Taylor Swift, they’ll be the true contenders. This award could easily go to either.
Album Of The Year
- I Am… Sasha Fierce – Beyoncé
- The E.N.D. – The Black Eyed Peas
- The Fame – Lady Gaga
- Big Whiskey And The Groogrux King – Dave Matthews Band
- Fearless – Taylor Swift
Should win: Lady GaGa’s The Fame is a pop music masterpiece. Perfect from beginning to end
Will win: Prepare to be shocked and prepare to do your best Kanye West impression because Taylor Swift’s Fearless could cause the night’s biggest upset.
