Video: Taylor Swift Joined By Stevie Nicks For 52nd Annual Grammy Awards Performance

Earlier in the night, Grammy winner Taylor Swift revealed she would be performing with one of her idols. When she took the stage for her performance, that idol was revealed when she was joined by Fleetwood Mac singer, Stevie Nicks.

Taylor started with her latest single, Fairytale and was later joined by Stevie for the Fleetwood Mac song Rhiannon. A noticeably excited Taylor then launched into a more folk version of her own song, You Belong With Me with Stevie providing backing vocals.

Taylor is one of the night’s big winners, having scored 3 with more nominations to go.

You realize how weak of a singer Taylor Swift is when put side by side with Stevie.

      • Anonymous says:

Frankly…I didn’t think Stevie Nicks sound so great either. It’s a lot more difficult to sound good singing live. They have so much support for their voices in the studio. You only need to hear Kim on Real Housewives Atlanta sing her ridiculous, “Tardy For The Party” to know they could make a cat in heat sound like a pro.

        • Anonymous says:

Frankly….I think Stevie tried to lower herself to Taylor didn’t sound so awful in comparison. She didn’t want Taylor to suffer a humiliation.

    • SWM says:

Agree with 99% of what has been written below. She was horrible…..absolutely horrible. I give her credit for being able to write a catchy country-pop tune but she cannot sing live and if you’re gonna be a SINGER-SONGWRITER….delivering 50% of the formula wont work!

    • Angela says:

I thought they were both awesome! I was there as a fan when Stevie Nicks made it as a legend and now Taylor Swift will one day be called a legend, for her remarkable talent and role model for girls that are as young as 3 and 4 years old to the elderly reflecting back on memories of their own youth. It takes more than a great record, a great voice, or a great written song, it takes a lot of heart and there passion fot entertaining. Both vocals have been proven great by their fans that have brought them center stage together; and the key word is “together”!

  2. ohok2010 says:

Please – can we have no more live performances by Taylor Swift? Felt sorry for Stevie Nicks having to sing with her. Ouch – was painful to listen to Taylor miss almost every note.

  3. mwc says:

I’m a singer myself and I thought Taylor Swift was fine during this performance. Everyone needs to give the girl a break. It has simply become the popular thing to jump on the anti-Taylor bandwagon. She is a young kid who is amazingly talented and making her way in this crazy world. Why can’t people be happy for her? Stop being jealous and stupid and leave the kid alone.

    • buckfan says:

Yes, Taylor is a kid just trying to make her way, but when you sing with a legend, you should at least not be off key.

    • bzed says:

I am all set to give someone a break, but really this was a terrible performance. I have never even heard of Taylor Swift before so I just watched and was struck by the lousy quality of her performance.

    • Cindy says:

If you thought her singing was good, maybe you need to remove the earplugs…she can sing with the help of studios – not and never live…any song i have heard her sing live has been horrible….
sorry, she got her break and not she needs to give us one – stop singing live….

    • Anonymous says:

If you are going to sind with a legend like Stevie, then you have to be worty of it. Not some manufactured, marketed “talent”. Please.

    • Anonymous says:

You are a singer and can’t hear how horribly off=key she was in the harmony??? It was pathetic!! Maybe she was having trouble hearing Stevie? The look on Stevie’s face said it all!! Just shows what good marketing and no talent can do- ala Brittany,Jessica!!!

    • Anonymous says:

I THINK THAT TAYLOR SWIFT IS ADORQBLE, PEOPLE ARE HATERS,SHE IS A GREAT ROLE MODEL.TO ME SHE IS JUST REAL,WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET.I THOUGHT THAT THAT STEVIE AND TAYLOR WERE GOOD TOGETHER.

  4. bzed says:

Wow, Taylor is terrible; off key and very fake. Stevie is great as usual.

  5. cno says:

I have to admit, I wonder what happen or was she wanting to sound like that, not sure? But as forever, I love steavie nicks , wonderfull!!!!!!!!!1

  6. Stacye says:

Sounded terrible! Taylor is horribly off key absolutely every time she sings live. I like the girl & her songs are really good on the radio, etc. but live she is truly horrific & wouldn’t make it past the first round of American Idol. Stevie however never fails to impress, a true Rock n Roll Queen & Goddess.

    • tim says:

      AGREE 100 %!!!

love her heart, love her songwriting ability… great at writing catchy teeny bop songs!

but chick can’t sing a LICK!!!!

      absolutely terrible!

  7. corndog says:

    Ouch Taylor!

  8. Taylor fan says:

Some people can sing certain songs and some people cannot. Obviously, that is just not a song that Taylor can sing. She is still a talented writer and singer. Too many haters! lol

  9. Greg says:

I think I’ve heard even Elvis give a bad performance so I will cut her a break. I’m guessing Taylor is extremely talented but does not have the on-stage experience yet to make this look easy.

  10. Cheryl says:

I am a singer too- and I have to say Taylor is extremely painful to listen to. She’s a young singer and maybe has some talent- but it’s really hard to hear it under those poor performances. Even her pre-recorded stuff has pitch problems- although not as bad as the live stuff. I hope she gets some serious vocal technique under her belt and at least learns to support her voice well enough to stay on pitch. I think her future as a singer in the industry will depend on it.

  11. Cindy says:

Please no more Taylor Swift, the girl can NOT SING!!! It was a disgraced for that girl to sing with the great Stevie Nicks….someday people will take off their earplugs and see that while some might think she is pretty, she has no voice….Loved seeing Stevie….too bad it was beside Taylor!!!

  12. Anthony says:

Taylor’s been doing this for four years now and still has yet to improve her singing…she sounds just as bad as she always has. If it hasn’t improved by now, I don’t think it’s ever going to improve anytime soon. So enough with this “she’s just a kid” and “give her a break” nonsense–the girl’s 20 years old now. It’s time she stops making fairy tale songs about high school boys and starts taking some voice lessons–or better yet, just move to Hollywood and quit singing (or attempting to sing) altogether.

  13. nchanted says:

Stevie Nicks, always gracious.. and perfect…

  14. Kell says:

What a waste of Stevies time. Stevies voice should never be back up. She is way too good!!!

  15. mwc says:

You are aware that she and Stevie Nicks weren’t supposed to be singing the same parts, right? So many critics, so few people who actually know what they’re talking about. Her performance wasn’t fabulous, but it was okay–like many others of the night. But I guess it is just too irresistible not to hop on the bandwagon.

    • Nat says:

Yes, we do know what we are talking about. Stevie took harmony at first but when poor Taylor blew out the melody with that horrid squetching voice Stevie took over for her, THANK GOD!!! Never heard the girl sing before last night and was horrified. Thank goodness Stevie is graceful and didn’t send that girl offstage!

      • K2 says:

I couldn’t agree more. I didn’t know Taylor or anything about her but was listening along with my family and made all the same observations. She really has a pitch problem. She couldn’t hold a candle to Stevie and would do well to avoid the live performances.

    • Tralfaz says:

Of course we are aware of that. Stevie was singing back up to Taylor who was making my cats very freaked out.

  16. TaylorFan says:

I love Taylor Swift, but she cannot sing live. Taylor’s studios are obviously using pitch correction (Melodyne or Antares). The studio productions of her songs are wonderful and fun. The live performances are always lacking in basic pitch and tonal qualities. This Grammy performance was sad and painful to watch. I had hoped a year ago, after she first started winning awards, that Taylor would get a vocal coach and seriously work on her singing. That clearly has not happened, and as a result, the Grammy train wreck with Stevie Nicks happened. I wish she would take her craft more seriously.

  17. rossman says:

At least it was a live performance, what can you say. True she doesn’t have the skills of Nicki. I was interested in the rest of the band. Wasn’t that Butch Walker playing the short banjo and who was the lead guitar player? He looked familiar.

    • wildheart says:

Don’t know if you’re referring to the older, long-haired dude or someone else, but the older guy is Waddy Wachtel – Stevie’s long-time lead guitar. He even played with Stevie and Lindsey waaay back when on their Buckingham-Nicks album.

  18. Heathor B says:

oh my gosh, Taylor Swift tried her hardest TO RUIN this fantasic song… GEEZ Taylor can’t you just stick with YOUR OWN TRAGEDIES…

  19. Jennifer L says:

WOW Taylor Swift’s vocal performance was a NIGHTMARE! Stevie Nicks’ was great. Thirty plus years in this business is a testament to Stevie’s talents as a poet, artist, singer and performer. I really do not believe we will be seeing the same longevity in Taylor Swift. She is cute and writes catchy little songs that with the assistance of digital enhancement shoot straight up the pop charts. My seven year old loves them. Unfortunately the music business has become all about the perfect appearance and not the qualitative content. Sadly, this is not Taylor Swift’s first failed live performance. I just wish she had assassinated someone else’s song.

  20. cheryl says:

Loved, Loved, seeing Stevie Nicks!!! She is still an unbelievable amazing singer..I wish that artist such as Nicks could get more radio play time and more TV exposure !!! We are in serious need of some of those truly great and orginal singers , who really produced magic with there voices and stage presence …
I have to agree about Taylor , I suppose that she is a good singer …but, trying to stay up with Stevie …well it just wasn’t working for her..
She is a talented young woman …but as someone else suggested she should just stick with her own catchy tunes..I really felt bad for her..and Stevie did pull her through the whole ordeal…just like the professional she is..thanks Stevie for showing such style and grace …!!!

  21. Jo says:

I’m so sick of Taylor Swift’s high school lyrics and princess hair! Hopefully someone will tell her that she does not hold a candle to the always-awesome Stevie Nicks!

  22. Tracy says:

I have never understood the appeal of Taylor Swift. Sure she’s got catchy pop tunes, but to win Grammy’s? And her voice is average. If she were to go on American Idol, I don’t think she’d make it past Hollywood week.

  23. Joy R says:

Why oh why put Stevie Nicks as a backup singer. She can sing circles around Taylor Swift but I guess the powers that be thinks she’s the hot item at the moment. It makes you wonder where the talent is coming from nowadays. Sad… Sad.

  24. Tabby says:

Only reason Taylor Swift is getting anything is because Kanye boosted her sales. She cant sing worth a crap. Stevie Nicks had to tone down her voice because she was overpowering Taylor with her great vocals. I would have rather had someone drag Taylor offstage so that I could hear Stevie Nicks sing.

  25. Em C hammer says:

    I feel embarressed for Stevie.
Taylor just ruined one of her greatest songs.Taylor was totally off-key it was just awful.
THEN Stevie sings backup for taylor???? how backwards is that?
Stevie nicks IS the friggin’ gold dust woman! Why on earth is she singing backup?

  26. Ann says:

No if, ands, or buts…Taylor Swift is a terrible singer! Doesn’t matter if she’s performing her own music or not. If you think she sounds good, you have to be as tone deaf as she sounds!

  27. Maureen says:

Stevie Nicks was AWESOME. I thought it was a great pairing with Taylor. If it was not perfectly in tune I did not notice because it was sooo AWESOME when the music changed and Stevie came out from behind the stage. And BTW, does she not look FABULOUS!! Who cares if she sang backup for Taylor. When you’re a LEGEND you have the confidence and class to nurture a young star.

  28. Chris says:

    Taylor can’t sing!

  29. Buzz says:

Her duo with Stevie Nicks was an absolute downer. I’d get better results firing up my old 45 record player, dusting off the speakers and turning up the treble. Sorry don’t like the Swift Taylor hype!

  30. Mary says:

I’m 57 years old. I had the Grammys on TV in the background while at my computer, not paying attention. All of a sudden, though, I realized I was hearing the start of Rhiannon, and I looked up and thought, oh wow, Stevie Nicks. That’s great. Then, as I listened, I realized something was very wrong, and I tried to figure out what – who – it was. I separated out one voice, then the other. It was Taylor, off-key. I’m not jealous of Taylor, and don’t have anything against her. She was off-key. I do, however, worry for her: too much fame, too much attention, too much everything, all too soon. That’s not jealousy, just wisdom. I hope she can step back and get her bearings.

  31. chris culotta says:

last night when i saw this i said stevie must be wondering why cant this girl harmonize, i thought she killed rhiannon. but watching it again i thought it was ok they looked like they were having fun. stevie looked great sounded great. taylor needs a little help singing live. but it wasnt so bad

  32. Anonymous says:

    amazing what editing can do!

  33. Monica Garay says:

It is so absolutely refreshing to hear Taylor sing. She is full of talent and beauty, her voice is pure and real. She is the total package – singer, songwriter, entertainer – and the best part is that she can be herself. There is nothing fake about her. Truly one of the most talented people of all time. Taylor is amazing – so genuine and humble. Deserving of every award she gets. Keep it up, beautiful. The music industry could use a few more like you (:

  34. soul sister says:

OMG…What a sad performance! Not only is Taylor tone-deaf, but her singing style is amateurish, especially when compared with Stevie’s. Can’t believe Stevie managed to stay in-tune at all, with that distraction. Taylor needs to stick to those simple, speak-sing country songs she does and leave the sophisticated stuff to the pros like Stevie!!

  35. MrE9 says:

You would think her handler(s) would insist that she get a vocal coach – if she already has one, then that coach should be fired!! TS is becoming the Sarah Palin of music… all looks, no substance.

  36. kathleen says:

Not a Taylor fan at all ….but she purposely flattens and bends notes for effect… a hard style to harmonize with or to be harmonized with ..

gag… who put Stevie and Taylor together with their styles…almost impossible combination…frankly given the voices and styles it was not that bad …. but I would like to know what idiot decided to let those two unharmonic voices sing together…come on I love Stevie but no one ever said harmony was her strong suit …and if you really listen you can tell that in fact Taylor harmonized much better with Stevie than vice versa

You need to be fair folks…

  37. claudedawg says:

Love seeing Stevie preform.Taylor really can’t compare with STEVIE.Stevie is A timeless bueaty with an ageless voice.

  38. Anonymous says:

WHY ARE SO MANY PEOPLE AGAINST TAYLOR,I QUESS I MUST BE MISSING SOMETHING.ITHINK SHE IS JUST BEING HERSELF A YOUNG WOMAN.I LOVE STEVIE TOO,BUT I BET TAYLOR TOOK THE LEAD BECAUSE STEVIE IS KNOWN TO BE DRUNK ALOT SO SHE TOOK CONTROL.

  39. Anonymous says:

I don’t understand why Stevie is listed as the “fleetwood mac singer”.Stevie was much better as A single artist, she never gets enough credit.I wish she would be on the air more. The media seems not too care about all the fans she has.No one can preform with Stevie, she is in A class off her own.Taylor will need A few more years of preforming before she can be on stage with Stevie.

  40. Anonymous says:

Wow I love Stevie I really could have done without Taylor.

  41. Henry says:

This performance proves that you can have looks and still make it on that alone. I have to admit with the general consensus…the girl cannot sing live. She rights catchy songs and is certainly attractive, but looks alone will not guarentee long-term success once people realize that all you are is something record executives have “cooked up” in the studio.

  42. coco61 says:

Taylor was just nervous singing with her idol and Stevie always sounds like she’s gargling.

  43. Chris says:

Taylor Swift is a no talent ass clown, her voice is weaker than a 5 year old with a cold, but she’s blond, she’s white, and she sings country so I’m thinking she’ll do just fine :) and unlike black women she isn’t forced to get naked and dance in heels and a swim suit to pick up grammy nods, by golly well that darn gal can jus show up in er boots and jeans yee ha!!

  44. Anonymous says:

Taylor is a beautiful girl, but she can’t sing!!

  45. Grace says:

Even though I think Taylor Swift is adorable, she butchered Rhiannon. Stevie was so gracious throughout the entire thing.
Everyone has an off night but Taylor was horrible.

  46. Anonymous says:

You know what. SO what. she had one messup. Did you ever thing she just got over a cold. OK> can you sing that good. are you famous? NO. so dont judge her. everybody has an off day and you cant judge her whole talent and career by one performance. she is amazing. I am her number one fan and she is amazing.

  47. neal hurwitz says:

I like Taylor and love Stevie…this was fun and good!!!

  48. mischief9 says:

…. i cant sing……. but at least i know it ……… Taylor Swift , sounds like somebody rocked on the cats tail ….

  49. Filboy says:

I’m from the 60′s, and have always been curious about current music trends. When I first heard Taylor Swift, I could not understand the big deal about her. Her songs are monotonous, and don’t display any kind of voice skills or distinct style. The lyrics are fine and probably appeal to teens who buy most of the music nowadys. She really needs voice lessons, and heed the advice of many to avoid live performances until she improves. After hearing Beyonce and Pink performed, my first assessment of her was confirmed. She can write, but can’t performed yet worthy of a professional.

  50. Jennifer L says:

    Totally agree!
