Who says artists can’t sell records anymore? Country music seems to be doing just fine.
Country trio Lady Antebellum blasted through the competition to top the Billboard 200 album chart at No. 1 and easily earns 2010′s biggest selling debut week sum with their sophomore album, Need You Now. The set sold an astonishing 481,000 copies last week, almost good enough for a gold debut (500,000 copies sold).
Next week could be even better for the band as Grammy sales bumps get underway. The trio performed the album’s title-track on the awards show Sunday and took home Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
Last week’s chart topper, Hope For Haiti Now, falls to No. 2, but still performs strongly as a digital-only release, selling 143,000 copies.
