Is it officially goodbye to Fall Out Boy? Frontman Patrick Stump might be answering that question with a “yes.”
The band took a break after wrapping a nation-wide tour with Blink-182 last summer, but there’s good reason to believe they’ll never reunite.
“I’m not in Fall Out Boy right now,” Stump told Spin.com in an exclusive interview Tuesday (February 2). “But one way or another, the band will always be around. Steven Tyler isn’t in Aerosmith anymore, but his gravestone will probably say something about Aerosmith. Whether we play again or not, I don’t know. If we do, it will be for the right reasons. If we don’t, it will also be for the right reasons.”
The question was brought to Stump’s attention after a series of tweets by FOB bassist Pete Wentz on Monday which pretty much put the band’s fate in the same gloomy light. “Cant imagine playing in fob again. Something would have to change in my head or my heart- not my wallet. It’d have to be real,” Wentz wrote. He gave a longer explanation on his blog a day later. “I don’t know the future of Fall Out Boy,” he wrote, before saying “as a band we grew apart.”
Stump says at the moment he isn’t worrying about FOB, and is “so psyched” about the solo album he’s currently working on. Spin promises to have more in the album later today.
Patrick’s voice is amazing, so I can’t wait to see what his solo stuff is like. Loved his cover of Kanye’s “Love Lockdown.”

I think fall out boy will never be the same again if patrick or pete wentz go solo! But it would be a great chance for patrick stump to carry out his own legally without pete stealing the spotlight away from him

Well Patrick is an amazinq sinqer and I believe stronqly in my heart that he has a lot of ideas and talent to brinq to the world! I absoulty love him and I hope hes happy with his choice because if you look deep in those deep qreen beautiful eyes in the picture above he doesnt look like he is into rock at all! But we the real fans have to be very stronq about the disicion and show support if we love Patrick and the rest of the band members it was very hard for me because they broke up a day before my birthday but I tried very hard to strenthen up but by all means I know we sheded a few tears. I gave my 17yr old son Folie A Deux for Christmas, and even I was totaly impressed with the calibur of their music and their creativity. My son then tells me of several other FOB CD’s, and so I started to listen to ‘From Under the Corktree’ and ‘Infinity On High’ and the DVD ‘Live in Phoenix.
So here I am almost 50 and I am totaly obsessed with this band which now first with a whisper, then with the harshness of the tired and disillusioned.
You know in listening to it from a going backwards position musically; Folie 1st, From Under 2nd, Infinity, and finally the DVD. I think they would have had so much more fun as a band and they would not have become disillusioned.
My son told me that he didn’t much like Folie because it was made for older people like me! I didn’t believe him at first until I listened to the other albums. These albums were genious aand so fun and alive!! If you do make a come-back FOB, go back to when you all were happiest!!
I am an invalid at home all day and every day, one of the things I enjoy most is listening to the live concert at Phoenix and watching the separate songs on DVD, it makes me happy in an otherwise dull existance
