Bow Down To: “Pass Out” By Chris Brown

Singer Eva Simons poses with Chris Brown - facebook.com/evasimonsmusic

There’s a lot of talk about who currently wears the crown when it comes to male R&B/pop singers. Some, like my good friends at Bark + Bite Blog, feel Usher still owns it, but it’s slipping off of his head fast and will likely land in the lap of 25-year-old crooner-of-the-moment Trey Songz.

I’ll agree that with a diamond-certified album, the most No. 1′s of any artist in the 2000′s, and multiple Grammys, Usher is still sitting pretty with that crown on his head, but if it will be relinquished to anyone, my money is still on Chris Brown.

Sure, and I hate to admit it, sales by any other name would place Breezy’s third album, Graffiti, under the F for flop category. Released on December 8, 2009, the set still hasn’t managed to crack 300k copies sold in the United States, but I’m not counting him out. The album still has some serious power-players just waiting to be released. Case in point: “Pass Out.”

Built on the pulsating base of Eric Prydz‘s “Call On Me,” Breezy and Dutch electro-pop newcomer Eva Simons craft a sizzling dancefloor number that rivals another perfect pop opus by Brown, “Forever.”

The sexy, care-free interaction between boy and girl at the club is hard to deny. Even reviewers who ripped Graffiti to shreds pointed out how great “Pass Out” is.

Some will argue that more time since “the incident” needs to pass before audiences can appreciate a light-hearted song like “Pass Out” from Brown. I’d like to point those people to the massive resurgence of success “Forever” experienced while CB was still in the eye of the storm.

So, yes. Breezy is down, but not out. It’ll take just one hot song to put him back on track, and “Pass Out” could be exactly what he needs. Sorry, Trey. “Say Aah” is cool, but we’re bowing down to “Pass Out.”

love this article and pass out is great!!!

    • chris brown is a psycho he tries to kill her girlfriend but for people with no self esteem it mean shit says:

WTF with Usher comparisons?….wait a minute I know why ’cause chris last album was a flop & no one is interested in his music anymore.
so you decided to run your mouth about usher…
lmao anyway we both know that Jay Z has destroyed chris carreer …

by the way if you want more comparisons aboout both of them:
While CHRIS BROWN WILL RELEASE A FREE MIXTAPPE ON VAALENTINE DAY USHER WILL GET PAID FOR A NBA ALL STAR PERFORMANCE…

Get a life because u are useless. BTW why are u checking for Chris anyway, maybe it’s because u know u like him and so far from goin away.
SMH but it looks like u are the phycho.
        ANYWAY

      • Purple Heart says:

great points! chris will never be the star he was… and there is no comparison between usher and chris. unless you are 10 yrs old you know that usher is and will always be more successful than brown

You call Chris a flop. With what he’s been through those are pretty good numbers. In 2 months and 2 singles Chris sold 370,000. But Trey Songz only sold 500,000 in a disappointing 6 months and he put out 5 singles. And besides Trey had alot of promotion and no controversy while Chris didnt promotion. I Can Transform Ya sold 1.5 million in downloads so what does that tell ya.
Chris isnt going anywhere so get used to it. You’ll be seeing his SEXY face more than ever. And that’s why im so happy. HATERS STAY MAD! POW!

Chris is so goofy and that’s why he’s still loved lol. Finally an unbiased article that focus on his music. Sorry Trey u are not next and the crown belongs to Chris. U cant base the album success off physical album sales. I mean who still buy CDs when we got Itunes. His overall sales including singles and album sales is 1.4 million which says alot when u didnt have no promotion and u were blackballed. Pass Out is one of my favorite songs off the album so that’s great he’s making it a single. His next single should be “Wait” featuring Trey Songz and The Game.

Truth pass out is the business
    His album is great too

Pass Out is my joint too…#FISTPUMP all day! I go crazy to this song in my car.

Chris needs to come out with a new video….I read he is releasing Pass Out for his international/pop audience and Sing Like Me for his urban audience. I love both songs and I would like to see a video especially for Pass Out, because I know he would include a sick dance routine. I don’t see Pass Out being played much on a show like 106 & Park, but Sing Like Me would definitely be there.

As far as Chris’ album, Graffiti is marvelous and he needed to come with new material to keep his fanbase engaged. He couldn’t gamble on waiting almost 3 years since Exclusive was released to then deliver a new album, someone else would have taken his place. Given the media-circus following the 2009 assault, he still has sold 250K album in 2 months and ICTY is a platinum-selling single, I think he is proving to be pretty resilient. Plus he is not doing the live performance on the talk show circuit to market the album either. Hundreds of pop radio stations are still NOT playing his music too.

He has this mixtape about to drop (which has many dope selections) this V-day and he hopes to tour starting in the spring/summer. He will also be in Takers coming out this May. Success for Chris may not look like it did pre-2009 but I will not call Graffiti a flop until I see his sales# at the end of 2010.

The entire album rules!!! Graffiti is an excellent album! Chris Brown deserves a break already. People need to move on and stop hating on this talented individual. Chris Brown is the Best out there! He just happened to be with an idiot who brought out the worst in him and tried to ruin his life. Why does Charlie Sheen get a break?

  5. Ms Linda says:

chris brown is a good kid and just like e mniem say oparh and her gang should have stay out of this how come she is not making a big deal out of charlie sheen is it because he is whEite and older and should know better or is it because she don’t wants to step on the sheen family toes because she really did a job on chris her and gayle and jay z but the fans is letting everyone know that this kd deserve another break everybody else is getting one tommy lee terrence howard bebe winans don the soultrainman and mary j
everybody that is coming behind him getof him and yes he is a SUPERSTAR read what emeinm say because he is the only one spoke the truth and is not scare ups to you EMEIMN

Maybe if stores actually stocked Graffiti it would have sold more. I think those sales are fine considering some stores still act to petty to stock the item like they are the ones with a personal problem with Chris. @ tmj I agree I won’t even place it under any category until the end of 2010 or until every store stocks it. Sorry I’m still mad about that people are petty these days. Pass Out is a great single and I love me some Trey Songz but I don’t think he can dance lol and Chris has had more sucess maybe not in 2009 but in general he has. So if I had to chose I’d put my money on Chris lol.

  7. jordin says:

That pic is so cute. I love pass out and it does remind me of forever. I cant wait for the video. Sorry Trey Songz Chris alaready recieved my vote as the next to take the crown. His album Graffiti was like one of the best albums of 09 as far as quality of music. If people would just give the album a chance and base it off good music they would see the greatness of it too.

  8. Nyisha says:

I thought the album could’ve been better but then really whose album couldn’t be better. His only real competition is Usher and since I doubt Chris will go diamond Usher will wear the crown for a lil longer. CB if anyone can claim it though. I hope he doesn’t release anything else from this CD, he needs to get back in the studio and put out some new Post-Rhianna music ( o and stop using auto-tune). Trey Songz does not have that “it” factor when it comes to entertaining. He does nothing to make you wanna watch but plenty to make you wanna listen.

  9. Vani says:

  10. Meggie says:
